Over the weekend my daughter experienced severe pain on a tooth that was chipped. At first I thought it might be a cavity, but then there was swelling, I figured it was infected and she would need a root canal. I had already set up an appt at another dentist for Monday at 10:30, but they didn't offer nitrous oxide. My daughter has an extreme fear of needles. On Monday morning around 9am I called Sunnyvale Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, they let me know that they did have nitrous and they set us up with a 10am appointment. As I said my daughter has an extreme fear of needles. Although the nitrous helped a little, she was still freaking out, and was very afraid. I can't thank Dr Sudeep and her team enough. They explained that there is another option (full anesthesia)..but that would require scheduling and be a few days out, that her pain would only get worse and the infection would swell her face. They convinced her to try the Nitrous first and see how she does...no commitment beyond that. Unfortunately my daughter did not feel like the nitrous calmed her down enough. She was still freaking out. The dr spoke with me separately and let me know that they are going to try their best, this is something that should be addressed immediately. But if my daughter is moving around and fighting that would risk her getting hurt while taking the injection and that she does not want her to get hurt...so if it comes to that then we'd have to schedule for putting her under. I understood that putting her under is a last resort, and really appreciated that the dr and her team would do everything they could to prevent that. They were so patient with us and spent a lot of time calmly explaining things to my daughter. I actually started to feel bad because they had other patients waiting as well and they cant spent so much time just trying to give a 10 second shot. Eventually, after a lot of crying and fighting and absolute fear from my daughter, the dr was able to give the first numbing shot. Immediately after Dr Sudeep said "you did it! how was it?" my daughter said "I didnt feel anything". She needed an additional two shots for complete numbing and there was no more drama...she took them both like a champ, and didnt feel pain. I can not thank Dr Sudeep and her team enough for the kindness, patience and empathy they showed us. I was afraid the whole time that this wouldn't work and my daughters infection would get worse. If it wasn't for them, we would have not gotten my daughter out of pain today. Absolutely great.
