This review is long overdue...Upon realizing that it was time for me to change career trajectories in the Fall of 2018, I began doing research for personal training schools in Los Angeles, and NPTI resulted as a highly recommended center for learning. After checking out a few other establishments that offered CPT courses,  I chose to enroll at NPTI. This decision was facilitated when I met the director of admissions, Katie Mandell who was warm, friendly, and informative about what the courses entailed and their affiliation with the NASM programs. Although I was a novice in the field of fitness training, the instructor Christian Cianfrani and other more advanced students were excellent guides throughout the entire six months at NPTI. My level of knowledge pertaining anatomy, and the science behind exercise developed tremendously in a short span of time. In addition to the in class lectures, the students receive hands on training (with free membership) at the local fitness facilities near the school, and learn how to properly utilize the the varied equipment you may find at most gyms.In the interest of furthering my knowledge base as a well rounded health and wellness guide, I continued my education at NPTI for their Weight Loss and Nutrition Specialist course. With the help of Kenny, another amazing instructor, I was able to obtain a certification for this interesting and informative course. If you are serious about delving into the world of fitness and would like to help others as a wellness practitioner, this school offers exceptional programs that will build a strong foundation for your career in the field.

Cons: The program is a year long but you are only compensated for 6 months of that time if you are only doing sat classes. Keep that in mind when making a decision if you're a veteran. Also the absence system I personally think is flawed, if you're ten minutes late it's still considered an absence even if you are there the entire class which is 6 hours give or take on sat if you're only doing one day. That is absolutely ridiculous! Even if you have a legitimate excuse, doctor note etc it's still considered an absence. Make sure you are completely aware of how the absence and compensation factor works if you're a veteran. Make sure you have it in writing as well. Pros: Great info, regardless of what you think about the staff it's good info. Christian is a good teacher with a lot of good info, and is actively involved with the class from an intellectual and physical standpoint and that is rare to find. Just keep in mind the goal and let the other little things fall to the side.

I graduated from NPTI in April 2015. I still have very mixed feelings about the school. On a positive side, I learned a lot, it definitely changed my lifestyle and approach to my health and fitness. I got my NASM Cert and worked a little bit as a trainer. Few things on a negative side: It was not 500 hrs as advertised, not even close. Classes very normally over by 8.30 PM instead of 10. Besides, we all had a feeling, that Chris withholding info from us. A lot of stuff for NASM Exam werent covered at all. It became clear later - apparently, there was an internal conflict between management and Chris. Chris left and opened up his own personal training school. He started sending out emails to his former NPTI students, basically saying "I taught you and outdated sh''t". In my mind, this has crossed the line. I reached out to the owner, Julie McCalison and asked for a refund. She apologized for what happened, confirmed disagreements with Chris, and offered me to take any class for free. I gladly accepted the offer. However, the next 6 months it was basically meaningless back and forth. She offered no specifics, coudn't come up with the schedule. I reached to her several times, and each time she would say, get back to me next week or next month. So, I give up. The bottom line is this - you can learn a lot from NPTI, but these people don't care about your learning. They care about your money. They seem to not understand crisis management. If I could roll back time, I definitely would prefer to spend the same amount of money taking UCLA Extension Certificate or even less at Santa Monica City College.
