Very efficient appropriate diagnosis with excellent followup.  Highly experienced doctor.  Appointments at the UCLA Orthopedic 16th Street location are smoothly run and nearby City of Santa Monica parking is available. (Can't understand the low ratings...maybe because the patient did not get their desired diagnosis?)

I saw Dr. Alexakis because of my left hip pain and he spent less than five minutes with me, said that I needed a surgery but he was not doing surgeries anymore and told me to see another Dr. if I wanted to get the surgery.Really careless Dr. don't wast your time and money with him.

I went to see Dr Alexakis for an elbow injury.  I asked for an MRI as I felt I had torn ligaments.  He refused. After a few follow up appointments, he finally gave me an MRI and I had fractured my elbow and had 3 torn ligaments. Please avoid this doctor at all costs.  A few weeks later, UCLA contacted me requesting a survey on my experience with him. I don't think this was a random survey as this has never happened. I think they have had several complaints.

Dr Alexakis has been treating my dislocated/fractured shoulder.  He has taken a very conservative approach, which required my arm to be in a sling for a month and waiting 3 months before starting physical therapy.  I credit this approach to be the reason why my shoulder has not dislocated again (of which there is a 50% chance).  I feel that Dr. Alexakis is both a very knowledgeable as well as compassionate physician.  I highly recommend him.

I saw the doctor for a sprained knee.  I arrived a half hour early as requested and had xrays of both knees done.  The doctor was 25 minutes late even though I was his first patient after lunch.He examined my knee, asked relevant questions, and showed me the xrays.  I asked questions and he answered all my questions with relevant answers.This took 10 minutes which I don't begrudge him.  I would rather see a doctor who knows what he is doing, backed by decades of experience, than a newbie like a previous ortho doc I saw 3 years ago, also at UCLA Santa Monica.The previous ortho doc said I have osteo arthritis in my right knee.  Dr. Alexakis explained the xrays to me and I do not have arthritis in my right knee.This doctor is so nice that he told me I can cancel my appointment for one month out if I feel much better and do not see the need to be seen again.I do  not understand why this doctor has one and two star ratings.  Read the other reviews carefully and read between the lines.Have a nice day!
