My daughter and I took our advanced scuba certification with James. We took the boat out of Ventura Harbor two days in a row and got six dives in. James was an excellent instructor and the diving was fabulous. Our favorite dive was one where we got to watch the sea lions swim around us for a while followed by getting to see a rare and endangered nudibranch. Highly recommend!

The best dive shop! Reliable gear from trusted brands and very informative owners/staff. Their policies are fair for the rentals and purchases. Also their location cannot be beat next to the ocean and boat launch. Its easy to rent gear or fill tanks to get right in the water or go out on a boat.

I was in the market for my first dive setup, so I stopped into Dive Santa Barbara to look at some Scubapro gear. James welcomed me and we talked about the pros and cons of the various equipment that I had researched. I ended up buying everything from the shop and couldn't be happier with the purchase. I just got to use it Costa Rica for 4 days of diving in Samara and the Las Catalinas Islands. Sooo epic! Thanks James and I hope to dive with you in SB sometime soon

I rented scuba equipment from them for a dive boat trip, and the rental experience was the WORST I've had in my 50 years of diving. In addition to their overall nasty attitude, they told me to 'download the manual' when I asked about the dive computer I was renting. Really?! They couldn't be bothered to answer some basic questions? There were several more issues, but it's not worth my time to write more. I will be sure to never rent from them again!

Hello Kenan,I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience. Scubapro went all-digital with their computer manuals as a way to reduce their environmental impact and we do the same. The manual for the computer you rented is 40 pages of paper (we would have used 400 sheets of paper that day alone if we printed manuals for every rental). We instruct all of our clients to go through Scubapro's website to download the manual to their phone/device so they have access to all of the information before the trip departs AND while they are are out at the islands with zero cell service. I personally helped you with your gear reservation that evening and at zero point during our interaction were there ever any issues or nasty attitude that I saw. I do know we told a couple of your friends who were going on the dive boat as well, that we would not rent them gear since they had not been diving in over 20 years. I know this can ruffle feathers especially when people travel from far away to go out on a dive trip. As a dive shop we have a duty to ensure the safety of our clients. If that means I have to turn someone away to avoid a potentially harmful dive experience, then my staff and I will do that every time. We routinely run refresher courses for people who want to be prepared for their trips. As a dive shop we also want to ensure the beauty of our beautiful dive sites, so if we can do our part by not consuming unnecessary resources (like printing digital manuals) we will.Again I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience, but hopefully this provides you some insight into why we do what we do as stewards of our local marine environment, and if you don't agree hopefully it will prove insightful to others who read this.Sincerely,James TennantOwner
