I just had a very disappointing conversation with a gentleman by the name of Bruce. NOT HELPFUL whatsoever. I had always had great encounters, but he was not willing to offer any assistance.

This place literally changed my life. I came in a broken and confused person, I didnt understand why I did the things that I did, and came in at a real low. Being an outpatient for 2 and a half months changed my life. The staff was kind and empathetic, and guided me through the process of self recovery. I was able to better understand myself and learn how to deal with my thoughts/emotions in a healthy way. Everything in my life has changed and I I feel like Ive gotten a second chance. I would not trade this experience for all the money in the world. Thanks good heart, you saved me.

The staff was very attentive to my needs. If I had any questions, they were answered right away. I felt like I was in save hands from Detox to Sober Living. I was provided a relaps premtion plan so that I had an easy transition to my everyday life outside of treatment. This program saved my life.

It's hard to write this review because I had some great moments at Good Heart Recovery and in the end did get *clean* because of their help, but this place ended up doing more harm than good and I feel like it's important to share my experience, both for past and future clients. My fellow clients and the impatient staff (most of whom have since left) were amazing! The techs, nurse Rose, impatient case managers, and the therapists are the only reason the program is getting 3 stars instead of 2 (the pool was pretty cool too). The team that was once there made my first time in rehab fun AF and comforting (and I never thought I'd say that about rehab, but it's true). My issues were mainly with directors and some from BeWell, whom held all the power when it came to decision-making. I won't tell my whole story (we'd be here all day) but I experienced many unprofessional incidents that led to my month-early departure. I had come to my breaking point and sat in my car and sobbed, feeling exhausted and alone. I won't go into every detail but, for example, I experienced: harmful groups that were not handled professionally (e.g. we were asked to talk about some of the hardest moments of our lives [e.g. domestic violence and O.D. experiences] but "ran out of time" and had to quickly transition into a graduation without any resolve; harmful medical practices (medication that I was told I could finish [prescribed to me by G.H. for my panic attacks] was taken away from me without my knowledge or consent, which led to a terrifying panic attack; feeling physically unsafe and being told by a director that I could "sleep on the couch" if that's how I felt (instead of changing rooms for the night), racially insensitive remarks (e.g. my friend was told to take off his gold chains [one being of Our Lady of Guadalupe] because they made him look like a "dope dealer"), aggressive encounters with a director who got in my face, clients being physically violent (punching walls and kicking doors down), having psychotic breaks and literally nothing being done about it. The center was not skilled in crisis response! My first incident happened only one week into my *first time* in rehab. I was told by one of the directors *in front of my whole group and a new client* that I was to be discharged very soon and was asked if I "had anywhere to go yet". It turned out that directors were trying to have me discharged (without my knowledge) the following Tuesday, again, only one week into being there, despite the fact that I told directors and staff that I wanted to be there for 30 days. There were probably, like, 3 different excuses that I was told when I asked why I was being discharged so early. First, I was told that it was an "insurance thing", so I called my mom, freaking out, telling her she had to call our insurance or else they were going to kick me out. Well surprise, surprise, there was no issue with the insurance (duh, I have Anthem BlueCross, they're dope). I was then told that it wasn't an insurance thing, that I "had just been doing really well", meanwhile, my mom was apparently being told that I was 'having a flirtatious relationship with another client' and therefore should maybe leave (they literally had a couple staying there, but okay). So here I was, one week in, still detoxing, fighting for my bed in rehab because they wanted to give it to a new patient (so that two new patients could come in) which meant more money for them. My insurance was milked. I'm still paying for lab tests, out-of-pocket because insurance doesn't pay for samples. I've heard a lot of troubling stories from past clients and staff and I just want to encourage Good Heart Recovery to practice what they preach and 'take some accountability' and 'make some healthy changes'. This place will always have a special place in my heart, but I don't recommend this place for people of color and people from the LGBTQIA+ community. At least until some drastic changes are made. I know options are slim, so if you do decide to get help with GH, just proceed with caution
