Best experience when we visit sunnyside pediatric dr Sophie and her staff are very friendly and professional we enjoy going to her clinic

My 11 year old son was referred to this dentist because she touts herself as a pediatric dentist. I left a detailed vm on her phone and she called me back. She talks a mile a minute making it very difficult to understand her. I described in detail my sons two decayed back molars and she agreed to take a look at them. However, she also stated that she would need to take more x-rays and conduct a full examination of his teeth despite the fact that his x rays are less than two months old. I explained that the referring dentist had just conducted a full examination and that his teeth were cleaned in February 2022. She continued to talk a mile a minute insisting that she herself needed to repeat all of these procedures. I reluctantly agreed after asking her several questions. My main concern was that he be seen by her as expeditiously as possible. Today I spoke with her scheduling clerk who erroneously stated that my son was 13 years old. She also stated that Dr. Sophie Taylor told her to tell me that my son needed to see a specialist. When I asked why she would make this recommendation without even seeing him or examine his teeth that's when she said he was 13 years old. After I corrected her and again requested an urgent appointment with the doctor she became extremely attitudinal and said that Dr. Taylor would only see him virtually, which is absurd given her demands to the contrary. Avoid this practice at all costs! The doctor seems only interested in repeat money grabbing procedures and totally unconcerned with my sons very real pain. Why would she demand new x rays, an additional cleaning and exam only to tell her scheduling clerk to make only a virtual appointment!! I intend to report this dentist to the medical board next. Signed a very upset mom!

Wish we could give Dr. Sophie 10 stars. She is pure sunshine so appropriately named her practice. My 3-yo, who screamed bloody murder for a simple teeth cleaning at our old dentist, happily goes in for way more highly invasive procedures with Dr. Sophie and misses her and asks for her in between appointments. Dr. Sophie is extremely empathetic and sensitive to the needs of each kid (she's just as wonderful with our 8yo who has different dental issues and hangups than our 3yo). I cannot describe how terrified my 3yo was to go to the dentist after a year of going to a different one (whom everyone in Petaluma loves and rates highly), and Dr. Sophie made it a much easier, even ENJOYABLE, process for us. My daughter actually looks forward to going to the dentist now. Also, both of my kids, despite brushing their gums before they even had teeth, and practicing excellent oral hygiene, developed baby teeth cavities on their front teeth from nursing to sleep at night, and Dr. Sophie is the only dentist I've encountered who didn't seem to judge me for extended nursing or imply that I was secretly bathing their teeth in sugar on the sly. We went to her for a second opinion because our original dentist (the one my daughter is terrified to see for even a quick teeth cleaning) advised us that it was time to extract the top 4 teeth which would require anesthesia (and before age 3 no less), and we were open to doing this if it were for the best, but didn't want to undergo that with someone who my daughter was already scared or and who was already judging me for nursing and asking me at every visit how much longer I would be nursing (last kid--it's up to her) so we went to Dr Sophie who ultimately did extract one tooth--without anesthesia and without too many tears and basically no pain, and who saved the other three teeth. She's the best and well worth the drive from Petaluma to San Rafael.
