Comforting Hands? More like Greedy Hands and I would mot recommend them. The staff seem nice but they are being done no favors under the current management. Our experience: my 95-year-old friend was referred by a Kaiser social worker to stay at Comforting Hands for two weeks upon his hospital release. With a 30% cut for the social worker, my friend was charged $4,500 for two weeks! (read: you should absolutely negotiate the price for a loved one in the same situation). The administrator made my friends stay very uncomfortable because she was constantly fretting about getting paid. When I learned of this, I went there to help get things sorted. I gave her a check for $1,000 from my friend. She agreed to accepting another post-dated check for the remainder until my friend could get his funds sorted as soon as he was home again. However, She did not honor the agreement. Most unscrupulously, she changed the date on the check without consent (!) and cashed it 14 days early causing my friend all sorts of problems. She would later argue she was owed this money for services rendered. Sure lady but then dont make verbal agreements you dont intend to keep! An agency whose work is to find a match for hospital clients to a facility wanted to place Harold and the amount they have agreed was $ 4,500 less 30% for the agency ($1,350.00).The 2 weeks payment for us is $2,150 or $ 153.00 a day which includes room, food, care and a PT from Sutter Care came almost everyday to walk him. November 24, 2021, my son had to pick him up from Kaiser hospital which most facilities will not do. Of course my first question to him was how do we get paid? He said he has to do reverse mortgage after he gets home in 2 weeks. I never asked him again.. I figured, if I dont get paid, I have done a good deed Christmas time. A certain Anna with a caregiver Josephine came here one day and said they are taking care of Harold when he gets home. When we asked Harold he said he doesnt need them. The issues: 1. $153.00 a day for room, food, care in Marin is definitely not obsessive. 2.I doubt if there is a place in Marin that will let one stay with a promise to pay. 3.We have taken good care of Harold or you can ask him directly. Comforting Hands Forever came highly recommended by my fathers hospice service when his needs became so great that we could no longer care for him in his home. We found them to be very warm and caring, and after calling around to several other similar organizations we found the cost to be quite reasonable. Im puzzled by the one star review above and can only guess that everybodys response to the stress of watching a loved ones decline is different. Contrary to what the other poster wrote, I found their focus to not be on money, but on compassion and care and helping our family get through a very difficult time. So much so that they even turned down my offer to pay a per diem when my dad passed shortly after the beginning of a new month. If youre in the unfortunate position of needing such services, I really cant recommend these guys highly enough.
