I found this gem of a place in 2020 and feel so lucky to have it as my "go-to" mechanic! They are extremely responsive, price is reasonable and they always throw in little extras to go above and beyond. Roger the old owner raised the prices a tad before he sold to new owner Jared but they are still one of the best deals in North San Diego. The old owner we Roger worked hard to find a hard working, honest new owner to pass his family business to and I am so grateful for that. Jared kept all the former mechanics &surprisingly surpasses the quality, value and reputation of being a top-notch honest, fair and knowledgeable professional in this business. My family is very picky and strategic I who we use and I highly recommend coming to Knights Automotive if you want to not spend more than is needed AND get your money's worth!

(3/12/24 new review) Wow! Knights has a new owner, Jared G., and such a nice, honest guy! FYI, no need to worry about this new owner or this service center. Jare is like a younger version of Roger and I feel really confident our cars will continue to have exceptional service! I had an oil/fluids change & multipoint inspection done yesterday while I waited, in about 60 minutes, and it was less (of course) than the dealer quoted. They recommended a cabin filter change, which was done today in less than 25 minutes. Still the same old place and same great service! Thanks. (5 years ago) It was a SWEET ENDING to a very sour beginning, thanks to service manager, Chris Nelson and owner, Roger Knight. Long Story, Short: My radiator hose blew off, spewing coolant all over engine compartment and driver side of my Outback (92,000 miles); the dealer quoted me much more than Knight Automotive to replace hoses and thermostat, but failed to tell me that the radiator also needed to be replaced. Pretty tricky!!! Understanding the prior 24-hour long drama, Chris agreed to replace ALL the parts, including the radiator and labor, for the original quote the Subaru dealer gave me for just the hoses and thermostat. I didn't have my vehicle for the entire Labor Day weekend, but that was perfect. I not only saved money with a beautiful repair (including an engine cleaning), I couldn't go out shopping for 4 days!

Jared, thanks for your reply but you gave us a estimate of over $7,000 to repair a 17 yr old car which came as a complete shock to us since we had been bringing the car to Knight regularly for the past few years! We had you do the brakes which of course where critical to have done (and we expected that) but did not do the other repairs you indicated were "necessary". We took the car to another reputable repair shop and they indicated only ONE of the various other items you listed needed repairing....which only cost us under $600!!! Also, prior to you, we were not usually charged an inspection fee for possible services needed (i.e. we brought our other car to you with possible dead transmission and you charged us almost $200 to confirm that. Since we were such good clients, in the past, Sean might not have charged us for that one.) We trusted the previous owners at Knight, especially Sean, who is now no longer there. (Sorry but you are NOT correct that the same staff is still there...) Since we can't trust you are caring for what is BEST for us, we will not bring either of our cars back. We've been going to Knight Automotive for few years now and up until recently, would have agreed wholeheartedly with previous reviewers and high praises. But...Knight was recently sold and new owner(s) have implemented steep new rates. Suggest getting second quote elsewhere especially if repair "list" given by Knight is long and with unexpected issues.

When my Ford Explorer started overheating, I first went to a dealership and was hit with a $400 diagnostic fee, only to be told I needed a new water/coolant pump for nearly $4,000. Feeling skeptical, I reached out to Knights Automotive. Jared and his team looked into it and immediately advised that the dealership's quote seemed way off. They found the real issue was a blown gasket in my engine, and honestly recommended against doing the expensive repair, as it wouldn't solve the underlying problem. While I was bummed that this meant I needed a new car, at least I wasn't out thousands of dollars fixing something that wouldn't have solved the issue. Knights could have easily taken my money but chose not to. I appreciated Knights Automotive for their straightforward approach and saving me from a costly mistake. Their honesty, responsiveness, and fairness stood out to me. It's rare to find a service that truly looks out for the customer, and thats exactly what I found at Knight's. I highly recommend them for anyone seeking trustworthy auto care.
