Extremely incompetent and terrible service. Recently relocated to Washington and wanted to hire local accounting service. First reached out on March 16th and was told it's too late to file regular filing and I'd need an extension, which was fine and understandable. been working with Joe the entire duration, made deposit for half the services, was told on 24th that they're received all the documents and will start preparing. They wanted additional info which I provided but was told we owe $15k in taxes the night before due date (April 17th) when we normally receive 10k in refunds. I had to point out the the Christopher Huang's team that they're reading the W2 wrong, they kept telling us we owe over 10k to NY when we didn't work or live in NY, at most we may have gone into the NY office few days in a year. We eventually had to point out to the accounting team that our W2 shows very limited pay stub relating to NY and unless NY started charging over 50% in income tax, we shouldn't owe 10s of thousands of dollars. They eventually realized they just don't know how to read W2 and made a correction but was still telling us we'd owe THOUSANDS of dollars to NY. I kept asking if they can file an extension and figure out the details later but they never filed an extension and told us that they'd get back to us the next morning (the morning filing is due). We didn't hear back from them in the morning and was radio silent, so we had to scramble and reach out to our accountant we used prior to moving to Washington and he filed an extension in 10 minutes. I've been in contact with them ever since requesting a refund for the deposit we've made and was told they spent so much time on it that they can't issue a refund. What good is spending HOURS on preparing my taxes if you can't read my W2 correctly? They also kept telling me it's my fault I didn't submit all the documents correctly. If I knew everything relating to what's needed to file my taxes correctly, WHY DO I HIRE YOU? do people normally go to a mechanic and tell them how to fix the car? No, you expect professional knowledge and service when you pay for professional services. The San Jose office manager, Hanna, kept telling me they've done more than enough work and can't issue a refund and refused to admit their team should know how to read a W2 correctly and should also know to ask for all the documents up front instead of asking for more later. She also kept telling me that they were so busy they couldn't file the extension in 3-4 weeks since I've reached out but somehow magically they're confident they could've filed an extension on time on day that it's due if I just didn't file with another firm. Somehow the accountant that didn't get back to us in the morning like he promised, couldn't file an extension in the 3-4 weeks he had, and was reading W2 wrong until the night before can magically file an extension within 14 hours if I just trusted enough.No personal negative feelings to the accountant that put in the work; however, I can't endorse and refuse to pay for a service where I had to step in and correct the mistakes of a professional AND risk getting fined by the IRS because the "professionals" most likely wouldn't file on time.
