This BBB does not email back within weeks, leaving the consumer unsure of whether or not their complaint has been logged. They also dont answer their phone when you can within their business hours. Very unhelpful

The BBB is now in the pockets of large corporations. In other words, the organization is now focused on the bettering of its own business. It is not what it once was and it can no longer be trusted to advocate for consumers. I filed a complaint with the BBB against Apple. Id previously contacted Apple via phone for assistance with a repeat issue Ive been dealing with for several years now: I am repeatedly signed out of my Apple devices (iPhone, laptop and Applewatch), sometimes within seconds of signing in, and I am all too often locked out even after entering the correct password. The issue was only impacting my phone when it first started in 2017, but back then I was able to reach an Apple rep (admittedly after at least two tries) who understood the issue and walked me through a fix that worked like a charm. Fast forward a few years and the issue returned after I bought a new phone. I couldnt remember the fix and the Apple reps I attempted to work with were absolutely useless, not to mention condescending. (I should note that this is a common issue and there are plenty of people complaining all over the Internet.) So, frustrated with Apples refusal to assist, I contacted the BBB. Apple feigned ignorance and claimed it had no record of my call, but I certainly did. So I sent the BBB a copy of my phone log (a printout from Verizon) showing that I spent nearly 50 minutes on the phone with Apple. Apple again feigned ignorance and the BBB resolved the complaint as Answered the business addressed the issues in the complaint but the customer remains dissatisfied. Yet Apple didnt even attempt to address the issue in the complaint. As I said, the company merely denied that the call ever occurred and pretty much suggested I call again. I replied to the assigned complaint specialist asking why the complaint was tagged this way and I got silence in response. To be clear, I realize the BBB is just a nonprofit and not a regulator. The BBB has no enforcement power and cant fine a company or force it to do anything. But the organization has a platform and is reputable and respected. At least, it once was. Now the BBB seems to be selling out to the highest bidder. Complaint Specialists are quick to close out complaints so long as the company responds, regardless of how empty and meaningless the response. That puts little to no pressure on the company, and it effectively wastes the consumers time and energy. Dont waste your time filing complaints with the BBB, and most certainly do not rely on the ratings they issue for businesses. The organization appears to have been bought and can no longer be trusted. Direct your complaints to government agencies/regulators instead, starting with the state AGs office.
