image The facility couldn't give a clear estimate on what my cost would be before my procedure and did not outline what services I'd be charged for for my visit. I called 4 different times and was given conflicting information each time and sent to two different numbers for patient pricing estimates that were not staffed or could not actually provide an estimate.
The PA I saw was knowledgeable and helpful, but support staff, billing staff, and overall transparency on services offered were poor.

image I recently went in for hand surgery (March 23).
Pros:
Good surgery team and results.
Excellent follow up virtually and with hand p/t on site.
Nice facility.
Cons:
This is a research organization. About 45 minutes prior to my surgery an attending physician trained a resident
on how to numb my arm completely using a portable imager and a series of complex injections in and around my armpit. This was an attempt to eliminate the need for general anesthesia during my operation. As it turned out it didnt numb my hand enough for the surgery schedule so they went with G.A. anyway. It did work well enough that when I tried adjusting my glasses I bonked my face with my now uncontrollable arm though no harm minus embarrassment was done. Also its worth noting that I have no prior issues with GA meaning this alternative was not requested by me or necessary for me. Long story shorter, this training attempt took around 20 minutes and was not discussed with me beforehand. I would have preferred a discussion prior to my surgery day where I could choose if I wanted this GA alternative attempted or not. It is this lack of communication from Ucsf that results in my rating of a two stars out of five.
I would suggest prior to surgery folks get a heads up on whether other surgery methods are to be tested in their procedure and a clear path to agree or disagree. Training residents is important but should be under the patients consent and understanding.
Thanks kindly.
James
