If I could rate no stars I would. This man is a manipulative scammer with anger issues.

Dr Chao misdiagnosed me with psoriasis, when in fact I had subcutaneous fungal infection. The treatment he prescribed me made things way worst. As things were getting really bad, and I was under a lot of pain, he showed little interest in following me more closely or revisit his diagnosis to adapt the medications. His office was doing the minimum work, e.g. had me call my insurance to check what treatment they covered, instead of doing that themselves like other doctor offices I've been at before. Overall felt very neglected. I ended up seeing another dermatologist who told me to stop Dr Chao's treatment immediately and properly diagnosed and treated me.

Do not go to this Doctor. He only has 5 minutes for you !

Do not trust the 4.5 star on Sutter Health. - Incredibly unprofessional doctor. Did not look at the issue I came in with even though hes a derm, did not explain the issue in a scientific manner. - Upon further questioning to understand what was happening to my body, doctor suggested cutting a piece of my face and sending it to the lab but at the expense of having a visible scar. He knew this would scare me, and I ended the appointment promptly after seeing this professional behavior Do not go to Joseph. He doesnt give a **** about you.

Please review the info here carefully and discuss with any referring physician. The staff in Dr. Chao's office are rude, unprofessional, dishonest, and unreliable. It is strongly recommended that you seek care from other providers. SF is full of caring, competent, organized dermatologists. It is your health and wellness that is at stake!
