23rd Street Studio

I took Michaels class years ago. I still have fond memories of the experience and I loved taking the sit in classes after the main class. I bought on of his drawings to remind me of a great life experience. Im not a great artist, but now I have heightened appreciation for people with incredible artistic talent.

I've been attending the non-instructional sessions for the past 12 weeks. The studio is great. There's plenty of benches, table top space, and easels to choose from. It's clean and well lit. You can borrow a board and buy newsprint easily. The models are all fantastic. Cannot recommend this studio more if you enjoy figure drawing.

23rd Street - Michael's studio is the best. Amazing models and a wonderful cohort of artist dedicated to drawing the human figure. A great place fospace for careful observation. His class is also unique. More about intrinsic creativity and uncovering and releasing your biases and conventions. Some "drawing" instruction but that's not the focus. Taught me to see what I was really doing and changed the way I draw. Robert Irwin said   "Seeing if forgetting the name of the thing one sees."  Come to forget labels and names - learn to see again. The negative reviews are from folks who didn't understand what Michael is trying to teach. Just had the wrong expectations which is odd since he is very clear  that his is not a traditional drawing class. I can't recommend the 23rd Street Studio more highly.
