Si-Hing Matt is so great with the kids. Their faces of laughter and determination are priceless. Watching them grow in confidence and resilience is so rewarding.

Matt is very kind and knowledgeable.I emailed a very specific question to two schools with children classes: Matt emailed me back with the answer right away but the other school ignored me (it has been a week). Highly recommend this business!

I have been taking Kung Fu San Soo here for a number of years now. The master, Stifu Steve Garrett, is not only a naturally gifted teacher, he is a human being with an extraordinary knack for being able to relate to every student. The point is, he makes it easy to learn and to want to keep learning and growing as a fighter. The depth of his knowledge is incredibly vast but you never feel like you are being talked down to. Further, the other gentleman running the studio Matt Jaeger, is equally gifted as a teacher and is also super relatable. They have both helped me to build my confidence in the real world. They were also able to pivot seamlessly in the pandemic, maintaining everyones momentum and learning in the best way possible. Its not super expensive - in fact, I would say its an EXCELLENT value. Cant recommend this place enough. Doesnt matter what level you are - beginner to black belt - its a fantastic school. Plus, its just plain fun.

Years ago, I was looking for a martial arts style that was practical and covered real life scenarios. A friend recommended me to Five Families Kung Fu San Soo and I was not disappointed. San Soo isn't about competition/sports or ancient spirituality, but more about surviving and handling yourself in any fight or live-or-death scenario. We've covered everything from standard punches and kicks to leverages, grappling/ground fighting, and weapons like knives and swords, which was exactly what I was looking for. Both Master Steve and Matt have a wealth of knowledge in handling confrontations, both physical and verbal, and provide a fun dynamic that makes every class a pleasure. During the pandemic, Steve and Matt were creative enough to make a virtual version of the class for us to keep our skills up while also being safe for everyone involved. We definitely appreciated this as we were able to continue making progress, rather than grow rusty due to inactivity. We definitely appreciate the level of thought and care that Steve and Matt have put into this class and I look forward to returning to in-person classes in June. Highly recommend.

I came to Master Steve after a violent encounter in my own life. He emphasis not just on the physical techniques (which are seriously devastating) but also things like de-escalation, the emotional difficulties of confrontation, and seeing past one's own ideas a prejudices to react appropriately, have made me a lifelong student.
