I called this vet at 6am and left a message on a Saturday morning because my cat was very sick. I knew they werent open yet, but asked if they could call me back and squeeze me in to see what was wrong with her. I was scared since my cat never gets sick. This vet is across the street, it would be so convenient and I wanted to try a vet closer to me. I let them know I was in need of something immediately and if they couldnt get me in, could they recommend another vet. I also called 3 other vets asking the same thing. A different vet got back to me at 7:50am and got me right in. I didnt hear from Carmel Mountain Vet until 1:30pm. By then I was already done and back home. I do not appreciate them calling back so late. A simple call in the morning to reassure me or let me know it was busy, or whatever would have gone so far! Compassion to people who are obviously worried is like gold! No thank you CMV! That is horrible customer service.

Im writing in hopes that other dog parents dont experience what I did last night.my dog ingested some milk chocolates yesterday. After speaking with poison control it was decided that she needed to go to her vet (Carmel mountain ranch hospital) to induce vomiting. No big deal I thought. I was wrong! I got a call an hour later that they had administered DOUBLE the dose of apomorphine! My dog went into severe enough respiratory depression that she had to be put on oxygen and rushed to the animal hospital. TO FIX THE OVERDOSE ADMINISTERED AT CMRVH! Thats what the discharge paperwork from the hospital says, she received an OVERDOSE. How does this happen? They put my dog, me and my family through hell thinking we were losing my baby due to the vets lack of professionalism and care for their patients. They know they messed up because the offered to cover the bill. I wont be taking my baby back there and Id research the reviews before you think of taking yours theirs. All they want is to quote you insanely expensive stuff your dog DOESNT need but its recommended by their vets. UPDATE: the VERY NEXT day after almost killing my dog the vets office calls telling me that I need to bring my dog into their office in a couple of weeks for mor bloodwork. They didnt even ask how my dog is doing. Theyre looking for more money from me. I dont think so. My dog will now go to a vet that knows what they are doing and cares about their patients. Not to mention the speciality hospital I was sent to themselves suggested we change vets as they receive a lot of patients that need to be cared for after being at Carmel mountain ranch veterinary hospital. PLEASE THINK BEFORE BRINGING YOUR PET HERE. They put me, my dog and my family through such unimaginable stress because of their mistake and they couldnt care less. I will happily share the discharge paperwork from the hospital which specifically says she was brought in due to APOMORPHINE OVERDOSE not the chocolate that Carmel mountain vet claimed to be worried about if it helps anyone.

Dear Melissa,

I am so sorry you and Annabelle had to go through anything other than a wonderful holiday.

The chocolate she ingested at home can be fatal
and giving her the medication to get her to purge it was what needed to be done.

You were notified immediately about the extremely rare miscommunication between my Veterinary associate doctor and the Registered Veterinary Technician.

This miscommunication was about the dose of meds needed. She did well after appropriate steps were taken to support her.

All of our staff reported she walked out of our hospital wagging her tail!

As a precaution, as this does not happen here, we offered and paid for your visit to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital, to be checked out and ensure nothing further needed to be done.

They said and documented Annabelle was fine with no concerns to her well-being as a result of the dosing at our hospital.

Annabelle was in and out of the specialty center without any treatment recommendations.

Melissa, we are so glad Annabelle did great. As a follow-up...you were called and a message was left on your voicemail from our Hospital Manager and then I called you as well and left a voicemail...both checking on Annabelle and to see how you were doing. I was the one that recommended the standard 'after care approach' for any dog that ingested chocolate...to do blood work in a few days to see if there was any residual damage to the liver and/or kidneys.
I gave you my personal cell number. I never heard from you.

Melissa, dosing issues are not something seen here...so I called and spoke to the
the Hospital Administrator of the Veterinary Specialty Hospital and she interviewed the entire team of front staff, Drs and nurses and she said that you were told they see this occasionally in Veterinary medicine.
They do not see patients from our hospital specifically for this and never said so.

She welcomes you to call her if you wish to discuss this further.

Again, I am so sorry you and Annabelle had a negative experience but do know we acted swiftly, and acted with her best interest in mind as we do for all our patients.

Please let us know where we can forward her records so she gets the post chocolate ingestion follow-up she needs if not already done.

With the deepest respect,

Elizabeth Grey DVM
