Rarefied studio is a precious gem that illuminates creative artists. Thoughtful in every detail; from the gear to the precision with which it is used, to the comfortable, clean atmosphere and aura of inspiration. Ive recorded in professional studios for over 25 years and this is by far my top choice in San Diego. Ive tracked several sessions at Rarefied and am consistently walking out with better recordings than were planned for. Roy is kind and respectful, fun to work with, takes precise notes on sessions, is honest, and records like an artist, not a computer programmer. He has a great ear and so mixing takes far less time as tracks sound powerful and larger than life before we mix. Your search is overthis is the real deal.

My eight piece Americana Soul band Blue Largo just recorded our new album at Rarefied Recording Studios in San Diego, California, and from start to finish it was by far the best recording experience of my forty year career as a professional musician. First of all, the studio itself is really something special, with the very best state of the art equipment, including a 32 track board, analog tape machine, the best mics, plate reverb, Hammond organ and Leslie, and a baby grand piano that our virtuoso piano player swears is the best playing and sounding piano shes ever laid her fingers upon. Theres also ample space for a large ensemble in the recording room, and the vibe of the mixing room has a hip, comfortable almost Zen-like vibe.
But for me, the best thing about Rarefied is working with owner/chief engineer, Roy Silverstein! Roy is the consummate professional, with the perfect blend of seriousness and being totally relaxed at the same time. I believe he also really cares about the musicians who record in his studio getting the best possible recording they can, and that hes very instructive in helping them achieve that, in his own subtle way.
Finally, if youre going to record at Rarefied, Id also highly recommend having Roy mix your record. He takes longer than most and because of that itll probably cost you more, but I promise its worth it. I truly feel that this new album of ours is the best out of the five weve recorded, and Im certain that the way it SOUNDS, is a big reason for that!
