My toddler woke up with an eye infection. While helping clean out her eyes and trying to get an appointment with her pediatrician, we ran 10 minutes late to the dental appointment. Lil Smiles called and informed us that the appointment would be canceled and we'd be charged $75. We explained the circumstances. They told us we should have called before the appointment. (Yes, but anyone whose kid has woken up sick knows that priorities shift.) They refused to waive the $75 fee. So now we have a dentist with more reasonable policies. I recommend you do the same - you never know when your kid's gonna wake up sick.

My son has been a long term patient of Dr. Toppi for years and has nothing but praise for his dental skills. He especially did a great job when he was younger and helped us through some rough times. Background: My son had a fever when he was an infant and the enamel (hard white part of the teeth) never formed properly. Knowing this he helped us to get the right topical treatments (Recaldent and Fluoride) to allow his teeth to function properly. Instead of On 08/15/2022 he got an exam and X-rays. We paid $215. On February 21st 2024, we received a notice that Dr. Toppi was "over paid by Cigna" for dental services over a year and a half later ago... Can you believe it... Dr. Toppi's staff almost a year and a half later sent us the bill! I politely called and informed them that this is not allowed, (you cannot bill a patient over a year later) and secondly when a carrier sends a EOB, in good faith we are only supposed to pay for what's on the original bill... If the carrier made a mistake it is not the responsibility of the patient to pay... " We then provided them with the case law (2) that details this. A month went by and now instead of calling, they are sending us to collections & charged us interest??? This is flat our not allowed! -I am a physician and we are required to bill carriers in a timely fashion or they are not responsible. -Likewise patients have to be billed for their "patient portion" in a timely fashion (120-160 days). Let's do the math... The claim was for back in August of 2022 and in 2024 they are asking us for monies!... I/we are in the process of reporting him Cigna for improper billing procedures. ****Knowing this you may want to stay away from this office if you are using any insurance.... ***** "Doc M."

I say this all with such a heavy heart has we absolutely love Dr.Toppi. That we are looking else where because of the front office staff. We have been coming to this place for 9 years, my daughter had a very traumatic experience with another dentist and he was such a lifesaver making her feel so comfortable. Our son starting to go here and wanted our newest addition to too. Back story we had an appt scheduled for Wednesday, on Monday our infant got taken by ambulance and was admitted to the hospital and is extremely sick and on top of that me the parent is also extremely sick. I had called to let them know Im so sorry weve been in the hospital with very little service and just the last thing on my mind was the dentist during that time. We clearly couldnt make the appointment with our infant in his condition and front staff, anna had said sorry its 75 to reschedule due to policy, just didnt care to hear it all that, life emergencies happens. That well you should have just called I absolutely understand that everyones time is valuable! And we have never missed an appt. Just so disappointed that the patients are now treated as dollar signs. Or so it seems. The front staff is not what it use to be. My kids will absolutely miss Doctor Toppi. He was the best and I will always recommend him. Im hoping he understands how his front staff is such deal breaker. They use to be wonderful! We just felt very much that we dont care about your sick children. The dentist him self is WONDERFUL. The front office staff really need a revamp.

I bring both of my kids to Dr Toppi and I would not recommend anyone else in the San Diego area. My oldest loves the dentist but my youngest is very resistant. The patience and caring that Dr Toppi and his team show every time we visit means the world to my husband and I.
