Kearny Mesa Convalescent and Nursing Home

My father was admitted here to recover from surgery and gain strength through rehab. He was placed in a 3 person room away from any natural light and he is affected by sundowning in a medical setting. I requested a room change and they did move him to another 3 person room near a window. We realized he was in a closed short hallway with 6 rooms and several rooms had covid positive patients. When I asked, it was confirmed, but I was told doors to rooms were closed. This was not always the case, both of my parents are in fragile health so I requested another room change away from covid positive patients. His new room was only 2 patients and he was near a window. Unfortunately my fathers health declined. He was also frustrated at the delay when he would push the call light. I asked for a doctor to see him or for bloodwork, I was told he would be discussed at a meeting the next day. The next morning I rushed to the facility from work after a call from my dad that he was feeling very ill. I had to physically request repeatedly for him to be transferred to the Emergency Room. He has been hospitalized for 7 days now. He had an infection related to his surgery. We should trust care facilities to make the best decisions for our loved ones as they recover. I had to instead repeatedly advocate, if you are not in a position that you can check in frequently on your loved one I dont recommend this facility.

Kearny Mesa Convalescent & Nursing Home has attentive and caring staff. A shout out to Maclee Castaneda who helped facilitate changes with my Mothers plan of care. He was very responsive to our emotional needs and concerns during a stressful time.

I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to staff of Kearny Mesa Convalescent and Nursing Home. I was treated with the utmost professionalism, courtesy, and skilled support that I could have ever wished for. I was treated from Nov. 11, 2023, to Dec. 4, 2023, and due to diligence and knowledge of your healthcare workers, I have recovered from my ailments, Most notably, CNA Tashny, who provided first rate frontline healthcare. She was incredible, expedient, caring. not to mention proficient. Thank you, Tashny, deserves a massive raise. I also wish to thank Courtni an unbelievable wound care nurse, Phillip a great nurse, Saba a hardworking CNA, and Jennifer the social services director, who took care of all my needs in the facility and arranged care outside of it. These people are a credit to their professions and to your facility. Thanks again, Paul Griggs
