This is the second time in about a six month period that Ive had donuts from here. Theyre pretty bad. The thing is, I understand higher pricing with how the retail space rent is in PB, but the price per donut is certainly not justified with the overall experience of biting into any flavor Ive tried. I wouldnt even mind paying more if the donuts were tasty like some other gourmet treat shops in the La Jolla-PB area. The donut base, naturally, is the same for all except the cake donuts. Its a commercial base. The texture is dry and heavy, and somehow very oily (especially the twist). Its sad to see real vanilla bean in a glaze only for it to fall flat and flavorless (other than cloyingly sweet sugar) on top of dense bread that tastes of nothing but frying oil. The lemon filling of the jelly donut is pretty much just a bitter yellow gel, pointing at a cheap lemon filling bought in bulk. This one was wholly unpleasant. The creamy filling of the strawberry split is the cheap hydrogenated oil whipped filling in packaged junk food which, unlike real whipping cream, is dry and oily. It does nothing to moisten the already crumbly donut texture while it simultaneously wilts the strawberries and then leaves the tongue with a greasy film. At this point, maybe just mixing strawberry jam or jelly into the whipped topping would be a better choice and make it easier to bite into. The only things that helped this shop qualify for a star is the consistently friendly service.

I had high hopes for this place. Just didn't like. My maple donut tasted like it just sat in oil. The red velvet cake donut was super dry. The caramel donut was good. They didn't have much to offer. I guess I just went to the wrong one.
