Cute little Goodwill. Prices are high, but the folks that are complaining need to remember a few things: (1) Minimum wage increased to $16.30 in San Diego, (thereby increasing employer taxes), and the cost of benefits has also risen. You cant expect employers to pay their employees more without raising prices and/or cutting back on staff. Its basic logic that folks often forget when they are putting demands on companies to pay more, only to turn around and complain that a fast food meal now costs $16. It would be nice if the cost of the extra wages came out of the CEOs unreasonably high salary or the companys profits, but reality check, it doesnt and it wont. (2) Demand for used clothing/goods has increased due to resell apps like Poshmark, Mercarci, and Offerup. Increases in demand cause increased in price. These thrift stores have become aware that many of their shoppers are scouring their isles in search of cheap, name brand clothing, only to turn around and resell it for exponential profits. So why would any reasonable business continue to allow a 3rd party to profit off its merchandise when it could simply raise the prices and realize the profit themselves? These young brats that are always complaining about greedy corporations and capitalism are greedy hypocrites themselves and have proven that they are willing to seize the opportunity to be the very thing that they supposedly hate when it presents itself. Their actions are affecting the price and availability of secondhand clothing for folks who may not be able to afford anything else, (or have the time, means, or physical/mental capabilities to run an online closet themselves). Side note: I did see a $149 China set and a $25 Banana Republic dress in the store recently that made me a bit hot under the collar, especially when I found the same dress online for $13.99.
