Dr Brubaker is an amazing surgeon! She cured my incontinence and changed my life! I used to wet my pants walking down the street and 20+ years later I am still cured!!

My primary requested an appointment with this specialist; however, the Scheduler was unable to make an appointment for over a month (offering no other option). My primary was able to work around this a bit for a quicker assessment thankfully. I really liked Dr Brubaker. She was knowledgeable and provided treatment options that worked based on my unique medical history. I’m glad I persisted with the appointment and was later able to recommend the MD to another colleague who had similar needs.

During my first apt with Dr. Brubaker I felt very rushed and unheard. She insisted that I didn't have the health problems I was claiming because they weren't in the UCSD medical records. She did not want to talk about my medical history and invalidated my health problems that I came to her for. Although this was an unpleasant experience I decided to stick with Dr. Brubaker since she I was referred to her for my specialty condition. Fast forward to 6 months later when I came down with an infection. I called her office and the nurse on staff, Stephanie was also very rude to me. I had gotten numbness down my entire left leg from the antibiotics Dr. Brubaker prescribed me and was panicked. Stephanie let me know that I should contact my primary care doctor for this problem. I insisted that this is something they needed to address so she said Dr. Brubaker would call me back by 3 PM that day. She never called so I called back and Stephanie answered. Their recommendation- stop taking the antibiotics and come in for an apt 6 days from then! By that point I would have had severe kidney damage from not being on antibiotics. I don't understand how this was their solution. She also questioned the fact that I even had an infection. She said Dr. Burbaker wants you to come in to discuss "expectations" - all I needed were some new antibiotics (and fast!). I ended up calling my primary care doctor and figuring out a quick plan to address my infection. If I followed Dr. Burbaker's instructions I could've ended up with severe kidney damage. Prior to this, I have had only good experiences with UC San Diego medical care. This experience left me in tears and feeling uncared for. I do not recommend her practice one bit and have advised my primary care to not refer patients to her anymore.
