San Diego County Operations Center

The San Diego County Operations Center is a conglomeration of tall buildings that remind me for no reason of a gulag out on the tundra of Siberia where Solzhenitsyn says the sun shines an unheated light. The place erupts out of nowhere and is so far out that MTS can't reach it with even a bus. And the head of MTS works here! The place is as huge as my alma mater, the sprawling University of Maryland at College Park, but not rustic or colonial whatsoever. There is art, and when I was there, students milled about as if at Maryland without the dairy store. They were studying to be poll workers. The election requires about a million poll workers, so there is considerable life in the gulag these days, and there's art. Lots of art. My photos of this art are not popular, so maybe it'd be best not to come here just for the statuary.

Had the privilege of working with County Inspector Ed Sanchez on a residential project in N County Inland. He was professional and personable and always arrived with a smile which we really appreciated. We'd had a couple other inspectors in between and they'd arrive so disinterested and almost expressionless and there's no need for that. Ed is a very "by the book" inspector; he has high expectations, but he is helpful, positive, encouraging, and recognizes the human element. Great representation of the County.

I've been to this place approx. 3 times im the last 3 weeks to obtain details for different parcels on behalf of clients. I didn't have an expectation, but have been extremely impressed by the efficient processes and friendly staff. I've typically been able to get in and out within 20 minutes with zoning information and other details needed. To add to the experience is the beautiful, newly constructed building and complex that creates a welcoming environment. Until my next visit...
