I have been in business for over 15 years and have never experienced a negative experience with a vendor in any industry as terrible and as damaging as my experience with DBB McKennon. I have never even felt compelled to write a negative review about anyone or any company, but feel a sense of responsibility toward other business owners to share my experience.
DBB McKennon went through a thorough bidding process, during which they reviewed our entire quickbooks file, various reports, and had 2-3 phone calls to discuss and agree on scope of work, timelines, and communications/reporting expectations. They were selected based on price competitiveness and a commitment to bring us on to quickbooks online and set up automated processes. They were to provide both day to day bookkeeping (including data entry, accounts payable, bill pay, and reporting) and accounting and end of year tax accounting for both my company and my personal needs.
As soon as the work began, it became clear that the agreed-upon communications expectations were not going to be met. They would not return phone calls or emails. I called our lead accountant 5-7 times over 3-4 weeks and never received a phone call back. We eventually had a follow up conversation and clarified communications expectations. They were always a quick 'yes' to agree to everything.
Thus began a 1-ish year vendor relationship that resulted in:
1. Zero bank reconciliations accomplished
2. $1000s of dollars in late fees on late bill payments
3. destroyed company and personal credit score (which also resulted in a reduction in line of credit).
4. numerous errors and lateness on tax filings (resulting in $1000s of penalties)
5. Almost zero communication (I spoke with the lead accountant a total of approx 4 times in an entire year)
6. They never set up the automation that we planned on from the start
7. The agreed-upon weekly and monthly reporting only accomplished 3 times in a year (zero visibility into financials)
8. The most unkempt books that my subsequent bookkeeper has ever seen.
9. Damaged our affiliate partner relationships due to failure to pay commissions.
After getting though tax season, we were finally able to part ways, but I have had to pay $10s of thousands of dollars rectifying the books from their year of 'service'.
I called the owner to attempt to rectify the situation. He was uncooperative. When I told him that we had $1000s of dollars on late fees and penalties he said, "and that's our fault??". Yes DBB, when you are in charge of accounts payable and paying bills, paying bills on time and accurately is fundamental to that assignment.
Almost an entire year later, we are still absorbing the financial damage, stress, and reputation damage this vendor relationship has caused us.
