Discovery Tree Schools (P St)

We love Discovery Tree P Street! My son is in the infant area and my daughter recently started Kindergarten, but was at this school for a little over a year. The teachers truly care about the kids and communicate well. Its really convenient for me, as I work in the building. I like that it has extra security, right in the lobby as well!

As soon as my husband and I found out we were pregnant we looked for daycare services. The first thing I appreciated was the walk through and honesty. Both the H and P street locations are amazing. Our daughter adjusted so well within just a few days when she started going part time. They wasted no time getting things set up for her, made sure we knew what she would need, and ensure the safety of all the kids. While some may find their COVID regulations a hassle, we are happy to comply if it means our daughter is safe and the staff are safe. Our daughter loves all their caretakers and goes to them willingly. She gets excited to go.  I am thankful for all who work there. They are attentive, keep you up to date on your kiddo through their app.

We have had our toddler at Discovery Tree since September, so I can only speak to the toddler room. Sonia, Nazaret, and Kisha have all been warm and kind, and clearly have worked hard to keep the activities interesting while allowing for enough free play time.  They take the kids outside as much as weather allows.  Inside there's so much art and reading and sensory play. The staff does a really great job of keeping in touch with parents about both regular day to day stuff and broader COVID policies, staff changes, etc. What I will say is this: they are truly a daycare for working parents. The facility is in a building downtown and it's not the cute little cottage with a vegetable garden kind of place.  That's not a negative and again the programming is wonderful, but if cottage is what you want this may not be the spot for you. For those families like us where both parents work full time, this place is a godsend. Good hours, no crazy multi-week breaks over the holidays, wonderful staff that will take amazing care of your kid while you have to go bring home the bacon.

I absolutely love this daycare! Oh my gosh! My two girls are new to this center, they have only been attending for 5 weeks. When I was calling around trying to find a center that fit my needs, and I called them for the very first time, I spoke with Leticia, who is the director of the center, and she was so professional, kind and welcoming to me over the phone. I felt so loved before I even met them. Once I started bringing my girls, I was so impressed with the attitudes of all the teachers. They all had such great, positive, welcoming attitudes and it made my experience SO MUCH easier. My girls were 9 weeks and 5 years old and I was a little stressed about having my 9 week old left at daycare, but man, these woman here at D.T. are so amazing. I felt so incredibly comfortable leaving them there. I called and emailed quite often to check on my kids the first few weeks, and I never got any attitude or "annoyed" tone from anyone. I also love how no parents are allowed in the back classrooms, to keep the kids safe from COVID, and I also love how the teachers don't wear shoes in the center. ( keep the outside germs away ) The kids also have to have a pair of new shoes that stay at the center, so when you arrive, your child takes off their shoes and puts on the ones that "stay at daycare". So its also the same concept of keeping the outside germs away. I adore all the teachers so much! I love love love Discovery Tree on H ST! Leticia, you are AMAZING! & I love the professionalism you and your staff give to us parents. You guys know I appreciate you!

Let me make this short - this is as good as it gets for a kid. Kids should love their daycare/preschool and the kids love DT. Additionally, the daily story/circle time is really obvious to her educational growth as an infant as within a week of her enrollment, she came back babbling about her day enthusiastically. We did a lot of research, interviewed parents from other facilities, and after getting off the waitlist of three other places, we are happy with our choice. We should have saved our time though by just noticing the page long section in the handbook about how we can't gift individual teachers presents or contact them on social media. After seeing how much our child loves her teachers at DT, we fully understand how parents would want to hire teachers outside of school, and how devastated our child would be if any of them were no longer working there.   Finally, in a COVID environment, there is no safer facility we found, given their strict protocols. Thank you to all at DT who make this possible.
