A Renovation Nightmare: Easy Kitchen and Bath's Trail of Deceit and Destruction Last year, my wife and I embarked on what we anticipated would be an exciting renovation project for our newly purchased home. Our aspiration was to bring new life to this old homes kitchen and two bathrooms. We enlisted the services of Easy Construction, LLC, a.k.a. Easy Kitchen and Bath (EKB), based in Riverside, California. Unfortunately, we had an experience so horrendous that it continues to resonate as a distressing reminder of misplaced trust a deceitful and dishonest company. The EKB salesman brought expectations of an expert team who would respect our living space and work diligently to realize our vision. Instead, we were plunged into a chaotic ordeal, characterized by gross negligence, blatant building code violations, rampant dishonesty, and eventual project abandonment and company bankruptcy, leaving the project half-finished while absconding with our money paid up front. From the onset, the company's disregard for basic construction protocols was alarming: flooring was not removed to the subfloor, outlets were installed at inconsistent heights, junction boxes were buried beneath drywall, an unburied pipe with an old wire running through it was left in place, multiple gauges of wire entered the same EKB-installed junction box, and separate circuits were not supplied for major kitchen appliances. A particularly concerning instance involved the installation of a shower drain in one of our bathrooms that led directly into the crawl space beneath our house--such a violation is not only grossly unprofessional but also a dangerous breach of health and safety standards. Dishonesty became a frequent theme with EKB. We were consistently given hollow reassurances about the arrival of our kitchen cabinets, promises that were demonstrated to be lies. When the California Contractors State License Board suspended EKB's license, we were left in the dark. In the end, we were 8 months without a kitchenthe heart of the household--until we had to spend additional money to have another company ultimately finish that work. It is difficult to express the frustration and helplessness that comes from being deceived by those who you have entrusted with your home's sanctity, yet whose words are hollow lies. The climax of our distressing journey arrived when EKB left us fully in the lurch, having filed for bankruptcy. We meticulously calculated the discrepancies between their work and our payments and tabulated that we were owed more than $24,000. Instead of addressing this issue responsibly, we are receiving a mere 5% of what we are owed, paid out over 10 years, under bankruptcy case number 6:22-bk-13971 SY. EKB's shameless owners, David Shorey and William Pulido, demonstrated an astounding lack of integrity. The company took our money, failed to complete the work, violated building codes, misled us continuously, and, when asked for accountability, shrugged off responsibility via a bankruptcy filing. This is not the conduct of a reputable business; it's the behavior of a firm that values profit over professionalism, integrity, and customer satisfaction. They blame the bankruptcy on poor credit decisions - a reflection of the company's irresponsibility and lack of integrity. In the aftermath of this nightmare, we feel compelled to share our experience to help others avoid similar distress. Also check the complaints on the Better Business Bureau site, which are fully reflective of our own disastrous experience. We recommend that anyone considering a renovation project steer clear of Easy Kitchen and Bath. Despite their name, there is nothing "easy" about the turmoil we've experienced, and we would not wish the same on you. The emotional turmoil, financial loss, and sheer distress we endured at the hands of EKB are experiences we wouldn't wish upon anyone. Remember, your home is not just a building; it's your sanctuary, deserving of the utmost care and respect. Choose your renovation partner wisely.
