Usually people only think to leave reviews after they've received bad service but neglect to review good service. I wanted to change that. Dr. Grace Wong is/was a consummate professional. She was thorough and contentious during my eye/vision exam (as well as being kind, friendly, and with a good sense of humor). I would recommend her and the Eye Care Center (there at 80 N. Lake Ave.). I plan on returning for future visits (glasses, contacts, exams, etc.).

Still a big fan of Dr. Grace Wong.However I am dropping my rating 1-star due to the frame specialists where she works. They've been patient during other visits but on my last visit it seemed like they wanted me to pick one already. After the glasses arrived and I'd worn them for more than 3 minutes, I realized that I'd chosen the wrong set of frames for my face. I called to see what my options were for exchanging or returning, even with a fee. There were no options. So, I'll be buying my actual glasses online from now on, where return-policies are explained better at the time of purchase, prices are better, and where I can try frames at home and return them if needed.

I've been a patient for Dr. Grace for almost a decade. As another reviewer said, an eye exam feels like a visit to an old friend. Dr. Grace is exceptionally thorough and patient. When the contacts maker one changed the formulation of its lens, we went through countless follow-up visits, translating to no income for her. She is the consummate professional who is also friendly. Dr. Grace never forgets to give you the rebates for your contacts. The savings add up!

Recently, I have noticed a deterioration in my vision. I've been burning a hole in my eye from reading on my smartphone in the dark in bed and ruining my vision further by looking at / reading stuff as a passenger while the car is in motion. It was time to see an optometrist. My first time was at a Costco more than 15 years ago and my second time was at a LensCrafters, a few years after that. LensCrafters informed me that I was purposefully given a stronger prescription than I needed because of some reason that wasn't so clear but I hesitated to pursue more details, and now I can't remember what that reason was. Wearing that pair of glasses made me tire easily and I felt like an owl with extra wide-opened eyes. I haven't gotten my eyes checked since.My BFF, who has been a lifetime four-eye, recommended Dr. Grace. Dr. Grace shares the same space as another Dr. Wong, no relations, so they go by first names. -Easy appointment booking-Easy free parking -They accept discounts from plans like EyeMed if you don't have vision insuranceAfter filling out a new patient questionnaire, the assistant had me look into a machine that tests for peripheral vision. There was a little bit of a wait because of the patient ahead of me taking extra long, but soon after I sat down in a comfortable chair in the exam room filled with giant machines and a computer monitor. Alone, I became a little uneasy not knowing what to expect. Did my vision worsen from my bad habit of rubbing my eyes a lot? Am I screwed with wearing thick glasses from here on out? What kinds of tests are going to be done on me today?Dr. Grace walked in and immediately I didn't feel so anxious anymore. She was genuinely friendly and nice. She explained everything before she was about to do, and unlike all the doctor's visits I've been to, I didn't feel rushed or feel that she was in a hurry. She was still very patient and nice even when my eyelids wrestled hard and fought back at her. I felt bad to have wasted her time.My BFF told me to get the OptoMap Imaging. For under $30 it's a quick non-invasive test that involves taking a photo with low intensity scanning lasers inside your eyeball via your retina. optomap.com/en-US/optoma… I found out afterwards about the laser part but it was not bad at all. Dr. Grace was able to show me on a dual-monitor what my eyeball looks like from the inside and explain about my condition, this and that.I was most fascinated by the drawer of lenses she had, where she picked up a lens here and a lens there and voila! My prescription and mock set of glasses to try on. Soon after, the eye exam was over. I was relieved that it was not bad at all.I am actually pretty excited about getting a new pair of glasses. I haven't actually ordered it yet. Most people order their glasses the same day but I had to run. I'm looking forward to going back and picking out new frames and being able to see like a normal human being again. I also look forward to having a more regular check up with Dr. Grace...it won't be another 10 years before I get my eyes checked out again.
