Smith House, 1961 1175 La Loma Road Architect: Dennis Smith Primary Architectural Style: International / Mid-Century Modern Original Owner: George F. Smith Original Use: Single Family Residence Designed by Dennis Smith (who joined the firm of Buff & Hensman in 1963) for his parents. Past the post and beam design's severe street facade with expansive roof overhangs, is an open interior linked to the pool behind by expanses of glass, framed by vertical tongue and groove wood siding. Dennis Smith, AIA began working with Pasadena architects Conrad Buff & Donald Hensman after graduation from USC, staying with the firm until 1966. He rejoined their employ from 1967 to 1970, but the unpredictable workload pushed him to seek employment elsewhere. He returned in 1973 and has stayed until the present. Smith became a partner in the firm 1988, and president in 1997 when Donald Hensman retired.
