My husband had a rash next to his eye that spread to his eyelid. At first we thought it was an insect bite, but it was also very painful and causing him a headache. I called to make an appointment for him and they were to far out so I was told he could go to urgent care. My husband arrived at urgent care at 8 pm. After checking in Dr. Yun glanced at him and told him it was a mosquito bite and to go home. There were NO vitals taken. He protested if she is sure that is was a mosquito bite and explained that it was painful. She begrudgingly called him over looked again and said it was shingles, prescribed two medications and sent him to the pharmacy. He called me while waiting for his medicine to tell me what happened. I asked him if they took vitals, he said no, I was shocked! How do you not take vitals?? I told him to go back over there after he get his medicine and have them take his vitals. The paperwork she gave him specifically states if the fever gets worse go to the doctor, if the rash is near the eye, go to the doctor. Yet NO vitals were taken! Plus how do you properly prescribe the medication dosage if you do not weigh the person? My husband got his medications and went back to urgent care. She explained they are very busy and have too many patients and she agreed to see him anyway. I asked her over the phone, so are you telling me that when you have too many patients you turn people away and do not take vitals, she said yes and that in triage they do not always take vitals. I have been at Kaiser for six years, vitals are ALWAYS taken, ALWAYS. my husband asked about it being contagious, she said yes it is, that it is in the Discharge paperwork. He isnt feeling well!! Maybe tell the patient! I am in Houston as a caretaker for my mom, I trusted Kaiser to take care of my husband. I am VERY disappointed with Dr. Yun. Thankfully, I also know that she is an outlier and not our normal experience. She would benefit greatly from doing some research into how melanated people are treated in medicine. There are multiple, multiple, multiple articles and research about it online. I hope this is not the case, but for some of us given the history of how we are treated in this country, we never know. ALWAYS ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF and post REVIEWS so we know who to avoid, that message is for everyone, melanated and nonmelanated.
