We moved from Hawaii this past August. I knew myself along with my two kids we had cavities. We came to Pendleton Family Dental by the bowling alley in mainside and have had a great experience. The dentist has taken care of all of our cavities. Even told me that a filling I had done in Hawaii is now needed for a root canal. The dentist in Hawaii did tell me that due to the filling (she drilled more then she needed to) I was going to need a root canal later in life. Well that time has come. The front girls are all great at this location. The dr there is understanding and heard all my concerns because of my last dentist experience, he took his time and explained. I knew I was going to need to have work done and I always ask questions when reviewing my x-rays. The only down fall I have with this location, the dentist who will be performing the root canal is only there every other Tuesday. So I will have to get referred out because the likelihood of getting in before Valentines Day is no chance. Ive waited a month for a root canal to be taken care of. Im scheduled for a root canal on Valentines Day. After my initial appointment I wish I was scheduled for my root canal right away. I could have had better hope. Maybe I couldnt have but the initiative would have been nice. I had x-rays done and by no means is this comfortable. Prior to starting the women told me she would do the easy stuff first but for the ones in the back I will more then likely gag and at that time after picture has been taken I can immediately remove the devise. Just because of the position of the piece that goes into your mouth. For sure uncomfortable and yes I did gag but I was warned. She gave me a minute from coughing. We started up again when I was ready. The piece they used was a rubber piece. In other facilities Ive been to in the past, their is a thin and flat plastic piece and it hurts. The edges are rough. This facility uses a rubber piece and the edging is smooth. I will also say that I added dental to my side of the insurance. Because I work for the government I also got United Concordia. That took into effect Jan 1. I told the staff I wanted to take care of the cavities the first. They got us all taken care of after the first and submitted claims to both my husband and I insurance. Before the first I was going to have to pay about $600 out of pocket. With waiting for my insurance to kick in, Im paying up to $200 out of pocket. Give them a chance. More then likely what happened in the past has nothing to do with the current dentist. Whens dr of any kind buys or takes over a practice they have to take over all negative comments as well. 2/14/23: update, I didnt get a root canal and we are just going to monitor the tooth and filling in that tooth. Going through a series of test with my tooth, the dr stated that my tooth is still live and well. That filling has a hair line fracture going horizontally. So pending on what I eat the top layer will hit the bottom layer and cause some discomfort. So soft foods are eaten on that side. Defiantly give them another chance.

They told me that I had 12 cavities. Ive never had one my whole life. Went elsewhere for a second opinion. No cavities. 2 on watch. They wanted to drill into stains that will come out with a cleaning. Stay away. Call tricare for a better dentist in network.

I care more about a great hygienist than a dentist. Since 2015, I've seen about seven hygienists. Out of those seven, two have been absolutely phenomenal! One retired, and I found myself on the hunt, convinced I'd never find a good one again. And then I went to Pendleton Family Dental. I've seen the hygienist twice now, and feel like a complete jacka$$ for not knowing her name. Both times, my smile was restored to brightness! My coffee stains, gone! No judgment for what buildup I had (partly because of two gum grafts I had a mere 8wks ago). In finding this wonderful lady, I'm now able to convert all my care over to this office. Yes, you read that right! I would go here 2x a year (covered) and then off base 2x a year (not covered) to the office where my hygienist who retired worked. (That means, cleanings every 3mos but every 6mos at each office--it was a lot to keep track of.) Now? I get to book here every 3mos and save some money. $70 for my non-covered cleanings versus $120 off base. And, because my off base hygienist retired, I was seeing randoms in that office (not bad service, but not phenomenal or memorable). I am *THRILLED* to have set aside my fears of a contracted dental office on base.I will *ABSOLUTELY* continue my care here so long as we live on base, or in the area. (Although if my gal retires....)If anyone from PFD reads this, please respond with my hygienist's name and let her know just how awesome she is!
