Galleria Scola

I happened upon this shop while walking from my car to The Star. When I saw they did restorations as well as fine art framing, I knew I'd found the place to bring my 50+ year old wood block print that I couldn't even hang anymore because the old frame was separating. I had no idea what the condition of the original art was. It was framed in the '60s and hung in a stupidly humid/damp Victorian in San Francisco for decades. Then I traipsed around the country with it, not taking very good care. Behind the glass, I could see wrinkles, perhaps some water damage, just a mess. My expectation was that as soon as the glass was removed, the entire piece would crumble to dust. I laid out these expectations to Lisa when I brought it in and she said, "Well, the only way to know is to open it up and see." That said, she also offered to work with the existing frame to at least get it up on a wall again, but her professional recommendation was to give it a shot and hopefully reframe it in a more archival way. I held my breath as she lifted the glass and...YAY! It was intact! A little worse for wear, in no way preserved, but it held together and the option to properly frame it was now the goal. The first frame Lisa selected was, of course, perfect. The matte she found was subtle and fit the weathered old thing perfectly. Papa Hemmingway was gonna be on the wall again!When I went to pick it up, I nearly burst into tears. My mother had passed away a year before and this print was a favorite of hers, and now mine. It brought back so many memories and now it's up on the wall and properly preserved. This isn't a quckie, cheap, poster frame shop but you get what you pay for. If you have a piece that requires care in handling, this is the shop to bring it to.

I brought a print here a while back that I wanted framed.  I had no idea what I wanted and the service Lisa gave with her suggestions resulted in a beautifully framed piece that I was so happy with!  So I brought in a series of pictures of my dad when he was young and asked Lisa again for her suggestions.  Well once again it came out amazing...I love it and am so pleased with it.  I will be back again and again!

I was given a very beautiful artwork and I wanted something equally special in terms of framing it. Galleria Scola was recommended to me by a knowledgeable friend, and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of all aspects of their service. Lisa was outstanding- She listened carefully to my requests and questions, and was extremely helpful with her suggestions for just the right frame and mat to complement the artwork. I had five other artworks framed there as well, and all were handled with the same care, quality, and tastefulness. I would definitely recommend Galleria Scola (and Lisa) to anyone who is looking for "the best" in picture framing. I'll be back!

Lisa helped me for the second time today and I wanted to contribute to the already stellar reviews that led me to the shop to begin with.First of all she is knowledge and skilled in anything related to framing (and will give you her opinions and suggest different options), which is what you want when you go into a frame shop. That being said, today after she helped me with a framing need, she took the time to talk with me about a picture I'd bought (elsewhere) with the double hooks on the back that I was having challenges hanging.  She told me the pros and cons of hanging it different ways, suggested what she thought was best and gave me some complimentary wire to try.Afterward she helped me get everything into my car that was parked in front, which was above and beyond my expectations.  Knowledgable and kind- great attributes that aren't always easy to find.
