image We toured about 10 schools before selecting Maggy Haves.  Sending her to MHS was one of the best decisions we made for our kiddo. Here's an anecdote of what you can expect from the school: let's say some of the kids develop an interest in bricks.  The teachers will support that interest tying any academic and social-emotional development curriculum goals into that brick exploration.... Perhaps the teachers will source a bunch of bricks because the kids want to build a brick city.  So in a matter of days, the kids will have built a city -- practicing and getting better at teamwork along the way.  If structures fall down, the teachers will engage the children in reflections on why the structure may have fallen and what they could have learned from the experience.  Then, more building.  And then, a field trip to a brick factory or the like may happen, continuing to give the children an experience of what it's like to follow their passions while exploring the larger world. If you're looking to give your child a true sense of efficacy in life, to help them learn the joy of listening to and following one's heart, to create space for them to practice and gain mastery of interpersonal skills they'll need throughout life, to develop resilience in a kind, safe space, to be more than ready for Kindergarten, and to feel sad that Saturday and Sunday aren't school days, check out Maggy Haves.

image Maggy Haves School and the incredible people who work there have touched our family's lives and hearts forever. We started in the toddler program in 2020 and our daughter is now finishing her time in the Square Room. She says she wants to stay there forever. Our now 4.5 year old has grown socially and emotionally and has established lasting friendships. She feels so safe, secure and happy as part of this special community. She is confident and curious and thriving. Not only that, my husband and I have learned valuable parenting skills that bridge the gap between home and school. MHS begins with a gentle separation which in itself is such an important piece. They focus on social and emotional development and learning through play. There is a beautiful, large play yard with mature trees, magical treehouse and climbing structures that allow the kids' imaginations to run wild. There is a chicken coop, tortoise, bunny and lizard that all live at school. The Director, Christie, began as a parent at MHS, taught there for many years and is now the director. She is such a skilled child development expert, warm and caring person and is so thoughtful in planning every single detail of this school. The teachers are so in tune with the kids and treat them with kindness and respect - truly exceptional human beings. Shelly, the music teacher, brings her guitar and visits twice a week and parents are invited to watch their kids sing throughout the year. That's just one of the ways they bring their community together each year. We are so grateful to have found this incredible place to start our daughter's education and only wish that we could stay longer! A truly beautiful and unique experience that we will treasure always. Thank you, Maggy Haves School!

image My wife and I toured endless preschools throughout the SFV, but after our initial visit to Maggy Haves, we knew we had found the place for our  daughter to thrive.  Throughout her time here, she has grown in every  way emotionally as well as physically.  She has learned to advocate for  herself and to be curious about all things.  The director and staff at  Maggy Haves has delivered on their philosophy of catering to the whole  child.  Letting their voices be heard, and exploring the new feelings  they're experiencing at their young ages.  Not only has our daughter  benefited from Maggy Haves, but we did as parents too.  We have  learned how be better listeners and to truly be present for our daughter.  We  cannot recommend this school and community enough!

image I will forever be grateful in finding this school. My son started a month late into the school year right before he turned 4. His transition was very smooth and he immediately felt comfortable as if he had been going there for years. He had never complained a single day about having to go to school. That alone brought much relief, ease and happiness to my piece if mind when it came to where my child was during the day.  I was struggling in finding a school with both room for him and somewhere he would be happy. I took a tour and immediately told myself "my son needs to be here." Their philosophy and respect for children was everything I was looking for.Debbie, the school director, has been extremely supportive, from accepting him late into the year, to listening to all our issues and helping every step of the way to address them. She knew how much my son would benefit from their program and to say she was right would be quite the understatement. He made so many friends and the staff and teachers are so caring and always made sure my son felt safe. His last year's teacher were Jim and Wendy. Anybody will tell you how what an amazing teacher Jim is in how he creatively challenges the kids to think, but my son had an undeniable bond with Wendy. He LOVES Wendy. She has this natural nurturing personality that I know all the kids adored about her, including him.I love this school and I was so sad knowing my son had to graduate and leave. We will always love and cherish the memories and experiences we had at MHS.

image I think it is important to also know that MH has a history of being a breeding-ground of "helicopter parenting" and teachers. If you wanna subscribe to the LA-stereotype of "my kid started walking when he was 1m old" and "my kid spoke complete sentences when he was 1yo" - then this might be your place. We liked the concept of the school; the idea of getting to know other parents, the idea of the hands-on skills, etc. We found a larger percentage of the parents to be a bit zealous and snooty - while the teachers we experienced were rather inciting and relentless in their unfounded badgering of our kids abilities and progress. (mind you, our kid is undeniably easy going and insanely perceptive. he just needed to be allowed the space to grow and be nurtured - which is supposedly something that MH claims to provide - something we found not to be true in our story or a couple other parents/children we met.) so, when we moved schools and we found him opening up almost immediately. MH was obviously oppressing him and not serving as a nurturing, safe place, like it markets itself.  I am not saying the school is bad - i am just saying the skills of some of its teachers, and ambitions of some of the parents are not in-sync for a lot of people..... keep this in mind.We also learned that other schools offer longer hours for less money and more services. check out the completion and make sure you find the right fit!
