Amausaan Uji Matcha 甘兔庵 Newark

Super cute place, but the matcha is quite weak in flavor (savory note, slight grassy note) and service was curt. I understand that only one staff member was available to both take orders and prepare everything so it was fine.

I think that I just ran into another Hello Kitty place! This place is quite small, but love the setting here since the dining area is Japanese style plus they are playing Japanese music. Its like one of those hidden gems you can find around Newark. This dessert place is known for serving matcha food and drinks. I want to try something different rather than having boba again and again. So I decided to have ice cream with boba, which is quite new since its mixing both together. The ice cream I got really tastes sweet and delicious! I want to try their cheesecakes, but dont feel like it right now haha, but when I come back, I will have some of theirs.

Delicious Japanese desserts. Friendly attentive service. Super cute atmosphere. You can even try on kimonos for the grams.

Although some comment that this is a bit of Japan in Newark, one thing is not. In Japan, they do not accept tips. I am a tipper, no problem, and not cheap, but when your cash register automatically adds a $14.24 TIP on a $71.40 purchase, (automatically, not selected), then I guess, welcome to the new California.. Expect more of this as the consumers begin paying for the fast food workers minimum rate increase. I feel for the owners who are sincerely trying to make a living and provide creative products to consume.
