Rick and Jackie and their beautiful farm have been part of my life since I first moved into a tiny little granny unit in Meadow Vista years ago. Rick brought me garden mulch for my very first garden. I was determined to create soil to grow vegetables where there had been nothing grown before, and he loaded up his little truck and delivered and even unloaded the mulch by hand. That summer I grew tomatoes and spinach and lettuce and cucumbers, thanks to Rick. Over the next decade, my memories of Rick and Jackie are many. I got married and had a family and new home not far from that little granny unit. It became a yearly ritual to buy tomato plants and iris bouquets for my mother-in-law each May. Rick took photos of our growing family in the gardens at the farm. After the pandemic started we sold our home and moved into a rental in Applegate, and, even though we were a little late to start our garden they had squash and pumpkin starts available for contact-free pick up. We had pumpkins for days and jack-o-lanterns for our little one to brighten our season. This past month we got to see Rick and Jackie again for the first time in almost two years. We got our plants, said our hellos, and I was overwhelmed by appreciation for these two lovely members of our community. They handed my 3 year old a jar and told her to pick all the flowers she wanted. Rick gave us a beautiful book of poetry and photos he creates (he's a wonderful photographer!) and helped us to our car. We drove home with a car full of light, love and plants, as usual, and I felt so grateful. Their farm is a clearly a labor of love and all who visit are blessed by them and the beauty and abundance they have created.
