Our issue was that we had solid alder wood and stained unfurnished furniture sets in two bedrooms.  In one bedroom, however, we had purchased, a few years after buying the original sets, an IKEA bookcase which did the job but didn't match the other furniture.Years later, when I had more time to think about it, I decided I wanted to replace the IKEA with a bookcase that matched everything else.  Unfortunately, the style of unfinished and then stained furniture was no longer mass produced.  What to do?  The original unfinished furniture store where we had bought the furniture no longer existed.Researching, I found several such unfinished furniture stores in my general area and spoke with each.  Everyone told me I would be in for a pretty high expense but, of the three, only American Woodworks seemed to actually make the furniture itself.  The other stores farmed it out.  A visit to American Woodworks revealed that it had its own large woodshop.  David, the owner, seemed to be unusually knowledgeable about everything: if I wanted to add this, it would cost this much; if I wanted to not get such and such, it would reduce the cost this much.  So, I hired David supplying several photos of the bookcase we already owned (and which the new bookcase had to match) and brought a shelf from the one we had so he could match the stain.Now, the work wasn't exactly ready when it was supposed to be, but a few weeks later David delivered the finished piece.  It EXACTLY matched the furniture we had both in style and stain.  A BEAUTIFUL job.  So, if you aren't expecting such custom work to be finished by tomorrow or the next week, but can wait a bit, the result will be a beautifully and professionally crafted solid wood piece that will likely last forever.  I only wish I had more work for David to do.

I love this place! I originally bought a bookshelf and a bunk bed. Then I contracted them to build our kitchen. They did such a great job that I also had them do a bathroom as well as having them redo the front of the house. I have received nothing but compliments on the work that they have done.

Came by on a sunny Saturday and dealt with Julian. He was very helpful and patiently quoted me on several pieces. I bought a two-person chair and side table for a good price. Their selection is great and everything is hand made in house.
