Chinese Zion Baptist Church (CZBC) is a small church with fewer than 100 members, so there are plenty of opportunities to serve in this church. People know each other very well. CZBC is more like a big family than a church because people are warm and close instead of superficially courteous. Even though CZBC is a small church, the sermon messages seldom ask people for offerings. I have been to other bigger churches, but coincidently the few times I was in other churches their sermon messages asked people for tithe. When I was a student and when I was unemployed with no tithe/offering, people from CZBC treated me the same way.The current pastor of CZBC is Rev. Theodore Lai. He has been serving in this church since October 2016. Pastor Theo is a married, American-born Chinese in his 40's and experienced in the youth ministry. I like the Christmas service he led in 2016 because it was more contemporary.CZBC has English and Chinese services on every Sunday. The English service is in the fellowship hall. The worship style for the English service is contemporary Christian music. Every first Sunday of each month will be a combined service with the Holy Communion. CZBC has an English Youth Fellowship, Chinese Fellowship, and English Fellowship.Originally, only the third Sunday of each month has a church luncheon, but recently church luncheon is available on every Sunday for everyone. For people coming from Hong Kong, whenever they hear the word "Zion", they immediately associate CZBC with the famous Hong Kong cult "Church of Zion" that advises followers to drink hydrogen peroxide to cure diseases. CZBC has never told the congregation to drink hydrogen peroxide because the minister Cecilia Kwa used to be an Ob/Gyn and has been serving in this church for more than 20 years. CZBC was founded in 1977, which was long before the Hong Kong cult "Church of Zion" started. The major difference is in the word "Baptist". CZBC has an active, official membership from American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA). ABCUSA is one of the two major orthodox Baptists in the U.S. (The other one is Southern Baptist.) Most importantly, CZBC is a government-registered non-profit organization, so all the offerings given to CZBC is tax-deductible.
