They helped me so much w my taxes. Really grateful.

If I could give 0 stars I would! I really wanted to support a local business to file my personal and small business taxes for 2021, but regret it dearly. Our initial meeting with Ryan was great and he made everything sound easy and seemless. We walked away happy and optimistic that hiring a "professional" was the right decision for us, but things quickly went off the rails. Here's a BRIEF list of the issues we have had:1. After uploading our files we hadn't heard a peep from them in over a month. As business taxes are due March 15 and we did not want to get hit with late fines we inquired on the status of our filing. After a delayed response (and leaving us anxious), they got back saying they filed an extension - it would have been great to notify us that they were doing this.2. Mid April I emailed Ryan again to see if our taxes had been filed as we has not heard anything from them. I still have not received a response to that email 11 months later!3. In the same email we asked about quarterly tax payments as Ryan made us to believe he was a CPA and could advise us on all things related to our business taxes. Like #2 above, crickets!4. I tried emailing again a week later and got an out of office reply so I emailed their "info" email from his canned response. We still hadn't heard if our personal taxes were filed and are beginning to panic (again) as it is past the deadline to file and don't want to get audited/fined. Again, still have no record of any response to this email.5. After still not receiving my state refund check, I contacted them in September (now 6 months since they supposedly filed) to see what was going on only to find out they submitted my return with the wrong home address! They somehow confused my address of 5868 with 5686, resulting in an address that does not exist!!! They did the same for my fiance, submitting 5685 for her! If they got my address wrong, I don't even know what the did wrong on my returns.6. For over 10 months I went back & forth with JC Bookkeeping to get my return with no luck - I have numerous emails with no response from them & others were they brought in other employees (Amanda, Jackie), with no traction on a resolution.7. Amanda & Ryan had me go in person to sign a Power of Attorney form in September so that they could contact FTB on my behalf, which I did promptly. 8. I inquired again in October on the status - a month after giving them "Power of Attorney" - and Amanda said she would check with Ryan as he was "trying to get a hold of the state". I never heard back.9. I initiated an email YET AGAIN in December as they had gone silent on my again. He replied saying he sent the Power of Attorney to the state again & I should hear from them in 2 weeks (based on his track record thus far, I fullheartedly believe he never sent it a first time). The whole purpose of a POA is so that THEY could communicate with FTB on my behalf. They resubmitted the POA & I received a mailed letter from FTB stating an an authorized user access my account, which I let them know & never heard back.10. Fast forward another month and now entirely fed up with the incompetence of the "professionals", I decide to reach out to FTB directly. After an hour on hold I talk to the agent and they update my address instantly and note I should receive the check in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later, my refund is in my mailbox - to absolutely no help of JC Bookkeeping. To this date, 3/14/23, I still have not heard from anyone at JC Bookkeeping since December 2022. They should be entirely ashamed of themselves and have done absolutely nothing to make this situation right. The only thing they were quick and responsive on was sending me the bill for their "services".Side note - since they filed the tax returns improperly, I also did not receive the Middle Class Tax Relief money. Thankfully I am not in a financial position of relying on the tax return to pay my bills and feed my family, but if I was, JC Bookkeeping would've bankrupted me.TLDR; The negligence is strong with JC Bookkeeping. I advise anyone considering them to stay far away!!!

We decided to try local for our taxes last year & learned not to go here & to only trust a vetted CPA. Everything seemed great at the initial meeting & after that, crickets. It took them about 2 months to file our taxes (we sent everything in mid-February). When I would email, I'd get no response. If I called, they were in a meeting or training & would call me back, but never did. This went on for weeks until I finally got upset enough & bam, our taxes were finally ready. Thought it was over, but once we picked up our tax documents (we were late picking them up, so it was a couple months after everything was filed) I noticed that everything on our 2020 W-2 was checked off. Weird, it was for 2021- so, I check & sure enough, they went off the WRONG W-2. I checked & we had initially brought in the correct W-2 along with last years taxes & all other documents we had. Now, I had expected we would owe, so I had set money aside originally. Since we got a refund, we decided to spend what we had saved. Instead of getting $4k back, we then owed $15,000. I asked Jackie to pay everything aside what we originally owed, the $4k, penalties & interest. Jackie said she didn't pocket the money & wasn't charging me to fix their mistake, as well as them being out the additional time/money on fixing it. Upon further investigation, deductions I had asked be applied never were, they got the amount we were to be refunded by the state wrong & I could never get a clear answer on the amount due to the state & federal. Jackie assured me I could make payments interest/penalty free to federal... that was also wrong, it was about $500 to split it in payments during which time penalties & interest would continue to accrue. Jackie did pay that, as well as the ~$200 in penalties & interest. Although I'm glad they did pay something, I feel it wasn't enough & their mistake was pretty detrimental to my family. We had JUST started a business & didn't have a lot saved as we were solely relying on the business. I had to get a part time job & cancel a family vacation we have planned & saved 18 months for. I would never recommend a person who isn't even competent enough to look at the year on a W-2. This information is extremely important & such a careless mistake is so maddening. Not to mention Jackie acted as though meeting with us, paying what she did, etc. was all a favor she was doing for us & we should be so grateful. Save yourself the headache & money & find someone who knows what they're doing.

I needed a notary so I called JC Bookkeeping. I didn't need an appointment  and was able to get in right away. Their fee was lower than everyone I called and they actually answered the phone. I know you can get notary done free at banks but you need an appointment and it's hard to get someone on the phone. Also, all the bank notaries I was able to contact said they don't notarize escrow documents so they were useless. The employees at JC Bookkeeping were friendly and professional and I would recommend them.
