The ER personnel has lowered the bar for their welcoming committee. It's quite a toxic environment when I go to the ER. I thought they were trained on how to do IV's? Apparently not. They send the most incompetent person in to draw blood and make you look like a dart game after several attempts. This happy fellow ( inserts sarcasm) never smiles, has a rude disposition every time I go here and I heard him yelling at an older veteran. Interestingly enough, this public servant is a veteran himself If you look at his desk , there are forms to complain to the patient advocate about his behavior. I just might do that .

I have been a patient at the Long Beach VA for about 20 years now, and I'm 100% service-connected. I can't praise the medical and mental health care I receive at LB VA highly enough, nor adequately express the depth of gratitude I feel for everyone who has cared for me -- and even the (new-ish, I assume?) administrative decision-makers who have created new programs recently that offer transportation to the hospital for appts for eligible veterans with disabilities, and employee escorts to whisk veterans who need wheelchair service within hospital grounds. Sure, there have been a few irritating clinicians over the years, which I suppose can't be completely avoided. But a couple bad apples in 20 years of otherwise continually OUTSTANDING clinical care and administrative support is an amazing record. A close friend has been encouraging me to visit her in Montana, with a possible longterm goal of me relocating there. It's very tempting -- except for what sounds like a sharp decline in quality of VA care that I would have to be willing to accept if I lived there. There's a similar situation with another close friend in Arkansas. And with my elderly mom in Texas who wishes I lived closer. From the veterans in each of their orbits, I have heard such heartbreaking tales of rudeness, misdiagnosis, refusal to continue ongoing VA treatment for clinically stable relocating veterans, 60-90 day waits for appointments -- plus refusal to refer them out to Community Care after 30 days as required -- then even more delays when those long-awaited appointments are suddenly canceled by VA providers at the last minute with no explanation. I AM SO BLESSED TO LIVE IN THE VA LB SERVICE AREA! And, as I now realize, I am also blessed to be able to expect simple respect and kindness for veterans here.
