I arrived just before sunrise and was rewarded tenfold for the small sleep sacrifice required to see the pre dawn awakening. The area isn't a major tourist thoroughfare as it lacks the amenities of the larger amusment park style crashing waves or the multitude of marine creatures your typical lookyloo Sunday travelers might desire but for me it held a stark barren beauty that edged towards a darker more Nilistic landscape that satisfied some tragic part of my brain. It should definitely be a point of interest on your next trip to Point Reyes.

a beautiful place to go kayaking, stunning in its raw beauty...although best to go in the AM for less wind

When it isn't windy, it is great for paddleboarding. Our kids enjoyed seeing batrays and leopard sharks. Plenty of parking was available and there is a bathroom at the parking lot. The drive out there has gravel road, but you don't need all wheel drive.
