The risk is yours to take.
I wanted to paint my car gold. My budget was six grand; frontman Arsen said they would do a job that had to be done right (which included substantial dismantling of the car for thorough painting, then reassembling) for five grand, and in seven to 12 days. I chose a great color, and the car went into the shop.
Ten days, running a little behind. Twelve days, still not ready. On day 19, after renting a car for an extra week, I pushed for $300 off rather than the $200 they offered, and took possession of the car. First thing: bubbles in the paint on one of the rear panels. Arsen told me theyd fix it the following week.
I got the car home, and it died in front of my carport. I called, Arsen and another guy came to my place, investigated, and after some time a loosely connected grounding wire was tightened and the car was working. They also readjusted the trunklid, which I showed them wouldnt close without a slam.
Over the next week, I found that only half the inner lip of the sunroof was painted, leaving bare expanses of the cars original white finish showing whenever the sunroof was opened. The outside mirror housings had sloppy white seams showing through. A deep, obviously painted-over scratch marred one of the doors. The trunklid was visibly misaligned. The sunroof was sunken into the car, no longer flush with the body surface surrounding it. The drivers door no longer closed smoothly. A piece of interior trim actually fell off and hit the ground upon my opening the left-rear door. Sloppy adhesive/glue remnants surrounded the rear badging. A rubber gasket was only partially attached to the right-rear door.
And, most offensively, the chrome window surround on the passenger side had been visibly damaged (as though bent and poorly hammered back into shape) then re-attached to the car.
These issues took weeks to rectify, with both Mike and Arsen at LA Customs acknowledging the problems and reassuring me each time that they would fix them, and that they wanted me to be happy. As compensation, Arsen promised he would get one of his associates to do a free protective clearbra for the front of my car however, he later told me about the high price it would cost, and when I said, I thought you were going to pay for that, he replied, Well, we would have worked it out.
This was the nature of every one of their fixes. A free service would not have been free, a loaner car turned out to be a dangerously-tinted BMW (I couldnt see out the rear window) with squeaking brakes and an obnoxiously-tuned exhaust note, and most commonly, any time they addressed sloppy work they would only deliver the car with more of the same.
On my third trip back to the shop, my car was returned to me with an unfinished door edge and a new set of substantially misaligned door panels
I have the car in my possession, never to return there again. But after I sent a photo-text asking Arsen how I could best remove the weird, deep lines they had somehow scratched into the cars rear (I noticed them the very next morning), as well as the newest round of sloppy adhesive they had left on the car, Arsen said hed let me know in a couple of days. He never did.
Also, their last series of corrections left a significant blob of paint on the edge of the cars hood (a friend of mine spotted it from the curb), theres a bare spot of old white paint where the spoiler meets the trunklid, theres gold overspray on some of the rubber trim, and even after a second go those mirror housings still look like I painted them myself. Which is to say, poorly.
Each time the car was "finished," I felt like they assumed I simply wouldnt notice these things, some worse than others. Anyone who loves their car notices these things.
My advice is: Dont take your car to LA Customs Inc. for anything more substantial than a minor repair, unless you have lots of time, relaxed standards, and you want to step in as project manager yourselfto ensure, at best, mediocre workmanship.
