we recently had a couples portrait taken here. i was specifically interested in wet-plate photography (tin type), which was why we chose this studio.the husband and wife team are nice and responsive to calls/emails. scheduling was easy.personally, i did not care for the finished photo, but that could be a matter of subjective taste.we paid using Square and i was STUNNED that options for gratuity popped up (15%, 20%, no tip). as the owner was standing right there holding the phone with the Square, i felt pressured into leaving a 15% gratuity, which ended up being around 30 something dollars.tipping for photography services is ludicrous and soliciting tips for photography services is VULGAR. tipping options are enabled in the settings for Square, they are not an unavoidable part of the user interface.i was disgusted when i left and plan never to return.

They met me in their studio on short notice for my wife and I to sit and have our portrait taken. The 4x6 ferrotype/tin type was $50 and of great quality. You get to keep the original plus he emailed me a digital scan in which I made some cheap prints for other folks in the family. It's a cool experience I recommend anyone to have their photo taken via the wet plate process.

I am a member of The Heritage Square Museum in Pasadena and have participated as a Docent, Volunteer for 4 years now.  I met James & Valorie Denton @ the museum's annual Victorian Mourning Tours last year.  This couple works so hard and produces "Handmade Photography in a Digital Age".  After participating in the Mourning Tours they photographed me in my Black Victorian Riding Habit! The pictures are done in  sepia & are so remarkable and using the very labor intensive process of very early photography.  I was mesmerized watching both Valorie set up the shots prepping for James who would come take the shots then process them using these very old methods.  They dress in period too qand offer a wide variety of frames and displays for your photo!  They stand by their work and they are two of the nicest people.  Their little daughter is quite the charmer too!  I HIGHLY recommend them for your events or parties. Have a Victorian or turn of the century party and hire them. They can do any period - just ask them.  I am an event planner and I will definitely hire them.  It is so romantic and lovely to have an old times photo taken by them.  This is a class act  I have two photo's taken by them in Victorian & in a 1920's dinner dress and I plan to get more!  Call them!   you'll be so very happy with their beautiful & detailed work!
