I stopped in for a COVID test, assuming that a medical establishment would offer lab testing (PCR). The home kit antigen test I did 3 days prior had been negative, yet I have symptoms. The 95 dollar out-of-pocket fee seemed to make sense for a lab-confirmed PCR test. MedPlus also bills your insurance (or charges you if uninsured) for an urgent care visit, just as if you had come by for any other reason. After filling out much paperwork and waiting for half an hour or so, I overheard an employee in the back mention something about antigen testing. The man at the check in desk claims to have no clue when it comes to all this technical terminology (seriously?!) and so had to confirm with someone else. The conclusion? Yes, it is in fact the same test you could purchase at the drug store for approximately $20 if it was not out of stock everywhere. This is unethical for any business, especially so for a healthcare provider. Additionally, the test itself should also be covered by insurance for a patient that is symptomatic. Just sayin.

Beware of dishonest billing practices. My grandmother was rushed to the emergency room and has been admitted to Temecula Valley Hospital which requires a Covid test every three days in order for me and my mother to get in to visit her. We called around to find the best place near home to get these tests completed every three days and when we called this facility we were told they do rapid COVID-19 testing for $95. We have already come two times to do the testing paid the $95 fee and today upon the third visit today the gentleman tried to tell my mother that she was getting billed an additional $80 on top of needing to pay an additional $40 today to the $95 testing fee. When questioned he said his office staff had made a mistake and did not charge the co-pay the first two times my mother came in and so she will need to pay an additional $80 bill coming in the mail. When I questioned him why they are charging a co-pay if theyre not utilizing the insurance and making her pay out-of-pocket for the Covid test he said first and foremost they are a doctors office so even though she is not coming in to see a doctor due to illness but is just getting a rapid test which they provide he is charging the insurance company for a office visit as if she is coming into see a doctor and charging her the co-pay and then selling the Covid test secondary for the $95 out of pocket fee. This information was not given when we called in to request the cost of the test nor was this information shared or charged for the first two visits and his attitude with me was he doesnt care. Its just another way to take advantage of people and this pandemic. These places get supplied the Covid test for free that they turn around and gauge us on. Its incredibly sad the state of our healthcare. If you dont need a Covid test last minute and can wait for results I recommend the CVS minute clinic they will go through your insurance and not try to overcharge when you find yourself in a situation like we are in having to have one every three days

I walked in and the receptionist was having a conversation on her cell phone, just handed me a bunch of paper work and didnt even ask why I was being seen or anything. She had me fill out all of the paper work just to tell me that my visit for a covid test wasnt going to be covered by my insurance. If she werent too busy talking on her phone she could have told me that before I filled out my paperwork and I could have left.
