Words are almost inadequate to express our tremendous gratitude to the entire GJEL team for their help to our family. My father was carelessly struck and killed by a neighbor on our quiet cul de sac street one morning. We were surprised that the DA ultimately declined to file a manslaughter charge against the neighbor. The officer on the scene who we were in touch with was also surprised and advised us to file a civil suit. After some research we contacted Andy who agreed to take on our case. From that start, little did we know what would unfold over the next 2 years. Typically 99% of these cases settle but after multiple attempts by professional mediators there was no meaningful movement from the other side. At the appointed trial date, the judge attempted to force a settlement but even as we came down significantly, the neighbor simply again would not make any meaningful move, daring us to proceed with a trial. All this is to set the stage for the trial. There was no precedent for this suit because of my dad's older age but he was incredibly active and had no health issues. The neighbor admitted liability so the suit was for damages. We were warned that a trial would be a very difficult process and they were right. Andy, Luke, Kristen, Jim and the entire team put their all behind the case and spared no expense including expert witnesses and exhibits. Luke was a magnificent trial lawyer and I can't say enough praise how he and this team handled everything every step of the way. In the end, the verdict was a substantial one in our favor. While no verdict can bring back what was taken away, there was a sense of justice rendered for a wrongful death. What was so notable throughout this long process was the incredibly professional, caring and compassionate way we were treated from beginning to end. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the whole team from the partners to the paralegals. They took care of us like family and I can't recommend them enough to anyone who needs their help. On the anniversary of my dad's death going forward, I will say a silent prayer of gratitude to Andy, Luke, Kristen, Jim and everyone else at GJEL for everything they did to help us.
