I took my 2000 Honda Insight (2-door, 2-seater, little hybrid car with manual transmission) for a smog test. They did a 'Courtesy Inspection' with a few items in yellow/orange: engine oil, cabin filter, and rear drug brakes. I really keep this car (and others) well maintained, so decided to get the oil change done by them immediately. They mentioned that the rear drums probably need new pads. Next day, the rear left drug started making a rattling noise upon gentle braking before coming to a stop. I called a well-known Insight Man in Pasadena and was told that these drums do not need pads for ~500K miles (due to hybrid -> regen braking). I watched a few YT videos on drums and opened the drums up to find that the rear left side was very tight and the right side was very loose. I adjusted the tensions and everything became normal! This car uses rear wheel covers for aerodynamics and each is held with 2 quarter turn fasteners. One on the left side was missing and I am struggling to locate one. Coincidence? May be. May be not. What really irks me is the fact that the 'Courtesy Inspection' was totally uncalled for. One cannot and should not comment about a drum brake unless there are symptoms of wear/tear or they have opened the drum. They said they didn't. I can't prove anything, but be careful with courtesy inspections!

Santanu, You chose to disregard what was clearly and repeatedly explained to you by your service advisor and continue to speculate and draw your own conclusions. Once again, we NEVER recommended to you that your rear brakes were in need of repair. Stop being dishonest with this claim as if we tried to sell you on a brake repair when we did not. Our digital courtesy inspection is on record and backs the claim that I am making. We include photos of recommended items so there is more visual evidence. These photos help protect you as the a customer and us as a business. You authorized this service and agreed to it. Now in your review you say that it was "totally uncalled for" and that is completely false as you agreed to it in writing.Luis was your service advisor and repeatedly explained that the YELLOW mark on your rear brakes stated clearly "need more time to remove drums and inspect". We did not attempt to sell you rear brakes. EVER. As part of your oil change service we provide a digital courtesy inspection showing items in either GREEN, YELLOW, or RED. You had only one item in RED which we included a video of your negative battery terminal was not secure. Items in YELLOW, MAY need attention which is why they are marked yellow. We did not remove the drums for inspection so we wanted you to be aware of that which is why it was in YELLOW. We do not disassemble brake components during an oil change. Your insinuation that we did is more cynical speculation on your part and only diminishes your credibility with me further. We do not disassemble brake components unless we are specifically doing a brake inspection or repairs of another component require brake disassembly to gain access. Also if your clip for your rear aerodynamic wheel cover was missing and you returned to politely voice your concerns with that, I would have happily sourced and purchased one and installed it on your vehicle at no charge to you. These types of customer complaints do happen frequently and I would rather fix small problems in question than have a customer leave dissatisfied over a small item that may or may not be our fault. However, you chose to leave a disingenuous review so instead I will just leave you to figure out your little clip situation there on your own. Good day to you sir.
