For longer than I can remember the reason given for poor service has been staffing shortages and overwhelming workload. Well here's the truth about why LAPD Topanga doesn't answer their phone: the ringer is turned off. In 20 minutes of redials they could not answer their phone yet in 1 minute West Valley station answered both their phone and my question. According to a Watch Commander at Topanga the ringer is turned off because he can hear it at his desk in the back of an adjoining room. So that's one of the reasons why they don't answer the phone. They have their calls rollover to voicemail and seem to find that a more acceptable alternative to good service. And when I walked up to the desk they really don't seem to care much. Not unprofessional or impolite but clearly not interested in a citizen perspective. Too bad there is no alternative when we need police.
