Yogalayam is a classical yoga center that is a rare find in the Bay Area. The Director, Saraswathi Devi, is a considered a Senior level teacher and is well known for her dedication and commitment to the people whom she serves. She has dedicated over 40 years to the practice of Prana Yoga, a lineage passed down directly from her teacher (from India), Swami Vignanananda. Saraswathi Devi is most known for the one of a kind Yoga Therapy program that she founded at UC Berkeley which serves yoga practitioners with and without disabilities. She is also known for her full spectrum care of families through the practice of yoga through Pre/Post Natal, her popular Family/Baby classes as well as Yoga and Meditation for all walks of life. Although Saraswathi Devi has in-depth knowledge of yoga as a disciplined way of life, as an experienced teacher she is able to meet you where you are at with care and grace.

It’s unlikely you will ever find another class like this. You can expect heated massage oil for your baby, bamboo floors, candlelight, fresh flowers, clean linens for your baby and people to bounce them to sleep on exercise balls in an adjacent room while they listen to bird sounds and frogs. The same woman has been teaching this class nearly every week since before 1980s. There isn’t any social media updates so cancellations are posted on the door usually that morning... so keep this in mind. It’s not a business it’s a ashram.

I never post negative reviews, but had such a bad experience I feel like I should warn others, especially new moms. Today I tried to attend the postnatal class with my newborn and by some miracle managed to make it there in yoga pants with my baby on time. Only to find out that classes are cancelled this week. The person I spoke with on the phone confirmed that nowhere on their website or social media was this info made public. There only way you would have known is to have been in their email list. She was apologetic but also acted like what happened wasn't entirely foreseeable. I had a friend try to attend a few weeks ago who showed up only to find a sign on the door saying class was cancelled because all the helpers were sick. This is not how you run a business, especially one that caters to new moms. If you try to go if definitely recommend calling in advance to make sure class is actually happening.
