image Awesome store! Stopped in while my mom and I were walking around the area and really loved the high quality products and cool storefront. The staff member we met (Dennis) was incredibly helpful and fun to talk to. I love the shorts I picked up and will definitely be back.

image Always hopeful, and never surprised. I imagine this is how a lot of people who look like me go shopping saying to themselves;  "When they greet, me are they saying hello or just letting me know they see me?" "Why am I the only person being asked if I need help?" "Why aren't I asked if I need help?" "A call for security as I walk in the door, is that for me? I've been through it al! The worst part is when you question yourself and the voices in your head, cause you just ant to shop, but my shopping experience here was the same. I went to this store with my GF to help me pick out a jacket. When we walked in there was a man behind the counter, different from the cool one I engaged with the week before. This person wouldn't even look at us, turned away when I looked at him; didn't acknowledge us. We just shopped; trying on jackets and snapping them all back up (except 1). I worked in retail as a kid, but my GF is just kind so she did the same. There were a few customers in and out the door that he greeted. I could hear him speak but I focusing on the clothes. My GF also found a jacket she liked and tried it on near the counter, no sales person said a peep. According to her, everyone else who came into the store was greeted and offered assistance except us. We were just ignored. After finding what I wanted I also looked a raincoat by the door. That's when I spotted the salesman watching me as he also moved close to the door. It was clear he was ready to chase my overweight limping body (like I was gonna run). In fact, when I turned around now there were 3 staff people and we were the only customers in the store. Not 1; not one of the 3 staff people spoke to us to say hello or ask for assistance. This was a jacket I was exchanging, it was paid for, so I made the transaction. Otherwise, I would have left and left them with their fantasy that I was a thief. But like I said, it was an already paid for gift. Not wanting to make things more uncomfortable (you know Black people are experts at that all day! Oh yes, and I know women can have this experience as well! ) I spoke to the woman who had appeared behind the counter, as the 3rd staff person turned to return to the back room. 3 staff people, the two of us shopping, and not a word from any of them. You get the picture! Racism is one of the Saddest social diseases we live with, and harms everyone. In cases when I'm shopping, 99% of the time, the racist is just ignorant. I've watched white people walk out stores with unpaid items while the staff and security watch my every move! (This has happened at least twice. Amazing!) I've also worked with white people selling high end items. I mean I practically had a manager begging me to steal a jacket! I was confused and I didn't. It was months later that he and his partner got busted stealing multiple items from the place. Perhaps they were trying to set me up. I digress...My GF would have purchased the cute jacket she tried on on but she didn't like the vibe in there. She's white passing, which usually means she gets attention, but I guess her associating with me is why no staff person spoke to her. For me! Whew! I was gonna buy two jackets, since the other was a gift! Glad she encouraged me to wait. Another sad part is every time I commit to shopping local, this happens. Of course I expect at Target, but it's not worth supporting small businesses that are too often hateful and ignorant. I definitely would have walked out if I wasn't making an exchange, it's clear they don't want my money. Who knows how long this post will stay up, but perhaps it will give some people pause about supporting racist practices while shopping. It's possible a "we'll do better letter" may follow. Please don't bother. I say save it for your practices. Put your time and energy into hiring an anti-racist trainer for your healing, growth, and customer service. I'm putting a patch over the logo as well!
