image Dr. Silpa has eliminated so many questions I had about my G.I. issues. He has helped me last minute with teletherapy sessions and tested me for myriad issues. The medication he has recommended was tremendously helpful.

image Dr Silpa performed a colonoscopy on me many years ago.  It was the most painful procedure I have ever experienced.  I had many done before and many since and have never experienced the type of pain I felt during the one I had with him.  My intestines hurt for three months after the procedure.  Some months after this I developed gastroenteritis after visiting San Diego.  The diarrhea was severe.  When I went in to see him he told me it was probably stress related and to take fiber and exercise more.  I did and got worse. After a couple of weeks I called back and he laughed at me when I tried to tell him I was worse.  He told me to continue exercising.  A few weeks later my fingers began to swell and I developed rieters syndrome.  I had a c diff infection that progressed into an autoimmune disorder.  Dr Silpa realized he had been wrong and finally gave me vancomycin to treat the infection but by that time it was too late.  The pain and diarrhea I had been complaining about was not all in my head...I was sick.  I had to see a rheumatologist.  It took the rheumatologist months to get my symptoms under control and subsequently I have developed RA.I do not think Dr Silpa is caring or concerned about his patients and after that experience never saw him again.  FYI I am an RN and should have known better!

image Dr. Silpa has done a good job of diagnosing and treating my GI issues where others have failed, which is what matters. So, of course I'm happy with him. I've sometimes felt that appointments with him have been rushed, which wasn't the greatest feeling, but in my case, he prioritized addressing the most important things first, such that even when I felt just a little brushed off on a gut level, my gut was still well taken care of.

image Dr Silpa planned a combination of no-side-effects medications and a custom diet that helped me to achieve remission after having suffered off and on with Ulcerative colitis for 15 years.  I have remained in remission now for eight years, thanks to Dr Silpa.

image Since being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 30 years ago, I have seen dozens of GI docs.  In the 1980s I participated in a trial at UCSF, with Dr. Cello, of Pentasa, which is a non-steroid anti inflammatory oral drug used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's diseases, which are both inflammatory and had required steroids (like prednisone) to keep under control. Pentasa (literally 5-Amino salacylic acid, which is close to asprin) has no side effects and can be taken in doses up to 4 grams per day.For years I was stable on Pentasa.  Things to flare up occasionally.  The problem is that it works so well, that after five years on Pentasa, when you have a colonoscopy, it looks like you never had ulcerative colitis.  Many docs assume you never had it and start talking about irritable bowel syndrome.    Ulcerative Colitis is an easy diagnosis, and very obvious when seen through the scope.  No one will diagnose you with ulcerative colitis if you don't have it.m Now Docs seem know that Pentasa and other drugs like it can erase the long term effects of inflammation, which prednisone could never do.I started seeing Dr Silpa and he agreed to take me on - I have a complicated medical situation.  He is very organized and focused during your appointment, and the upside to this is that he runs on time.  He has to run on time because he has to perform procedures often and doesn't want t o be late.  He has an agenda and goes through it so nothing will be left out.  He is open to suggestions. His solutions are reasonable.  He may be less of a warm-fuzzy doc, but I appreciate his respect for your time and his time.  His assistant, Nicole, is awesome. I even saw him in his Alameda office once.  I have seen so many GI docs and I like Dr. Silpa a lot.  Good communication.  Good ideas.  Respectful of your time.
