We recently moved to town and had our first baby 4 months ago. Our wonderful realtor gave us a gift certificate when our son was born. What a perfect gift! This boutique is adorable and I love shopping for my baby boy here! It is such a treat and I am thankful we have such a cute boutique in town.

When I was a little girl growing in Delano, my mom and I would make sure to by my sister and me dresses, tights, and accessories from Peter Pan on Main Street.Fast forward 30 years--my sister discovered that Peter Pan is now in Bakersfield. While visiting the 661 from my new home in the Bay Area, my sister and I stopped in to shop for our own children. The store has a variety of clothing to choose from. I was most interested in items for my four-month-old boy. I found a cute chunky cable-knit sweater, a coordinating hat, a striped onesie for Christmas, and several indestructible books (my son loves these).I think it is super important to shop local, so I was happy to support a business from my childhood. The two ladies working behind the counter were super kind and helpful. They also put up with my rambunctious nephew and engaged with him. When I'm in town, I will make shopping at Peter Pan a habit!

Love this cute shop!! (Read until the end).I have to say this shop is one of a kind for Bakersfield, and I'm a boutique lover- so I was excited to come across this shop. Their clothing is pricey- so I went to the clearance rack first & the selection was pretty good. I was able to purchase three outfits for under $20! This being said; we are currently in Fall, the clearance was mostly summer, and the sizes were slim pickings- so I purchased items in larger sizing for my child to wear in the upcoming spring or summer months. It also makes me wonder if they are able to mark down the clearance so low/ why can't they just sell their merchandise for less to start with, or offer 2 for 1 deals on the newborn onesies or something? I'm a new mom (again) & that was my hang up about purchasing the "new" items, even though I LOVED them. The clearance was so good, It almost discredited purchasing anything that wasn't clearance, because all I could think about was how their purchase pricing was clearly low and their mark ups are crazy high. Which makes my brain assume this is more for "gifting" purposes or "special occasion" or "if mom wants to purchase one nice outfit". Basically taking advantage of the industry they are in, knowing people like grandma may stop in and drop a pretty penny for the first grand baby. Or wealthy moms who don't care about budgets will purchase. But for most new moms I know, including myself who do make pretty good income - still have budgets. I'm having to purchase everything from the crib to the barf rags, as most do- clothing should be a fair bracket for the quality. I have stopped in the shop a few times now, browsing for my newborn daughter (who's arriving this Jan. 2020). Each time I've ended up not purchasing anything because nothing stood out to me. I notice their boys selection is SO adorable, I love the modern styles. However with the girls styles- it's a bit more traditional, lots of cliche prints & pinks which is a hit or miss for me personally. I'm a more "minimalist modern mom", so I like more of the "chic basic" girls neutrals. I like organic cotton & brands like Quincy Mae and Rylee & Cru (same price point Peter Pan carries now, only I like these brands better then some of the ones I saw in their shop currently, due to style & fabric). I feel like if I'm going to drop $50+ on a newborn onesie that the child outgrows in a matter of weeks, it better be super soft organic cotton. Even Burt's bees sells organic cotton onesies for $16.95-$30 range. Then of course the other online boutiques send you coupons and incentives to purchase from them. So unfortunately for Peter Pan, I've been getting bulk of my baby items that way, where I feel like I'm getting high quality organic cotton items for a fraction of what their shop wants for non organic cotton. Crossing my fingers that they may pick up brands like these in the future, help get the pricing down so myself & more moms can get multiple items for $100 instead of 1-2 things. I'm also 100% the demographic age & income level this shop would be wanting to advertise to as well, so I'm not complaining about their pricing because I'm lower income- that's not the case. I purchased the SNOO bassinet, Bugaboo Fox stroller & Maxi Cosi car seat. So I'm all about spending where I feel like it's worth the investment. I'm just selective with my kids clothing due to the fact that they outgrow it so fast. If I'm spending $150 on a linen dress for myself- I'll have it for years because I don't grow. But I can't wrap my head around dropping $150 for my newborn on 3 onesies she will outgrow in a month. But that's just me. I also wish they carried more wooden toy / teether options, as well as the MUSHIE brand bibs & pacifiers. Possibly even glass bottles or top rated bottle brands on the market today, or lotions for baby and mom, breastfeeding cover ups & burp clothes, things new moms need besides just clothing, so I could get more basic items on my registry from one place.Even though this post sounded a lot like I was complaining- aside from the pricing on new items, I give this shop 5 stars. I'll keep stopping in Peter Pan when I'm in the area. They do get new inventory in often, so I'm keeping my eye out for the minimalist & organic cotton items that may pop in, better pricing or incentives like "25% off front of house"- something! Or I'll keep sticking with the clearance finds.Overall I won't be doing most of my shopping here, but for special occasions or if I'm out with my mom friends, I would be back to grab an item or two every so often.
