Well, I am a customer at stompin grounds and I watched today as a guy in a red shirt came in, dismantled the coffee machine thing, found a blow capacitor and gave the owners two options. 1. Buy a new board. $472 2. attempt to replace the Cap on the board. $1.59 The owners wanted to do the cheap-o fix, so the tech called (someone) and made sure the board was a single layer board and that the fix was fairly easy to fix. I think it was interesting that the tech was almost advocating for the customer, vs just trying to make a sell for a new mobo. This is pretty unusual in my opinion for hourly techs. That said, the tech did advise the owner that they were pretty much on their own should the board, or the cap replacement, not fix it. In other words, they may fix the board, replace the board and it still not work. They were basically paying hourly + mileage for a best guess on what was up with the coffee machine. That does raise some hairs on my neck, as I would think there should be some kind of compensation for misdiagnosing a problem- should that be the case.
