This is a great Y. The facility is well-maintained and well stocked, always clean, and the staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful. Programming is geared to every age. If you cannot find something to suit your health/exercise needs, you are not looking. Probably one of the best Ys in the valley.

On the evening of April 4th, 2024, I had an encounter with one of your staff members that prompts me to address an issue of concern. While engaged in an activity that necessitated the temporary removal of my footwear (socks were still on), A MALE EMPLOYEE, DISTINGUISHABLE BY HIS ORGANGE SHIRT AND CAP, approached me to remind me of the facility's footwear policy. I understand and respect the necessity of such rules for health and safety reasons. However, my contention arises from the observation that this policy appears to be inconsistently applied. On numerous occasions, I have witnessed individuals wearing sandals, flip-flops, open-toe shoes, and Crocs within the premises without intervention from the staff. When I brought this inconsistency to the employee's attention, his response was that it is not possible to monitor everyone, a statement that seems incongruent with the protocol that staff are expected to observe each person entering the facility and their adherence to dress code policies. This incident has led me to reflect on the broader issue of inconsistent enforcement of rules at this YMCA. While I am fully committed to adhering to the established guidelines, it is imperative for the integrity of any institution that its policies be applied uniformly to all members. Unfortunately, the demeanor of the staff member in questionmarked by unfriendliness, smugness, and sarcasmfurther compounded the situation, in stark contrast to the congenial and professional attitude displayed by the female staff on duty that evening. My intention is not to belittle the efforts of your staff but to highlight an area where improvement could enhance the experience for all members. The selective enforcement of rules not only undermines the spirit of fairness but also detracts from the inclusive, welcoming environment that the YMCA strives to foster. It is disheartening to have an otherwise positive view of this establishment marred by an experience that felt both demeaning and unnecessarily confrontational. I earnestly hope that this feedback will be taken as an opportunity for reflection and action, ensuring that all staff are adequately trained in the consistent application of the facility's rules and in maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor towards all members. It is through such measures that the YMCA can continue to be a space where everyone feels valued and respected.
